Karl looked like I had just slapped him hard across the face. His expression was one of stunned disbelief as the color drained from his face. "What?" he gasped out on a ragged exhalation. His eyes searched my face desperately as if hoping to find some sign that this was all an elaborate joke. I gave a grim nod, confirming his worst fears without an ounce of remorse. "You heard me. After you divorced me, I had no plans to actually remarry you like I said."
