Stepping outside, I found that the morning was so quiet, it was hard to believe an actual war had happened there. Jacob and I climbed into the jeep and started back towards the castle. That’s when we saw the absolute destruction. The entire center square of the city was gone. Even the fountain had been toppled. My heart ached at the sight. People had lost their homes, jobs, and even their lives. And we had gotten married. I glanced over at Jacob. There wasn’t a single bone in my body that regretted what we did last night. We did it for our love and to save our country. By the look on his face, I could tell that he didn’t regret it, either. His eyes darted around the city, but his hand continued to squeeze mine. No part of his expression gave away worry. All I saw there was hope. “Jacob?”
