The day had dragged on as I threw myself into more and more work however I still couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling from the meeting and what Alessandro said after. What did he mean by “Things will change and I should brace myself?” Questions questions I’ll never get answers to.
I settled in my chair forcing myself to focus on the spreadsheets spread across my laptop.Numbers started blurring infront of me seeming like nothing made sense. I sighed and rubbed my temples trying to lessen the tension and stress. My fathers health was deteriorating with every passing day. Yes he might have not been the best father when I was growing up but he is still my father I wouldn’t want to see him six feet under.
“Hey Sky.” Julia said poking her head over the cubicle divider. Her bright smile was a beautiful distraction from everything going on. “You looked like you were contemplating suicide a minute there. What did he do this time?”
I forced a a light hearted laugh.” Just the usual intimidation tactics. I don’t even get why it’s always me like they aren’t over two hundred employees.”
“Youuu knowww,” she said with a sinister smile.”It shows that he notices you in a room full of people if you were to ask my opinion I think he has it hot for you.”
“Yeah Juls in another universe maybe he makes my life so difficult here and looks at me with disgust.Well jokes on him I hate him too.”
“There’s a very thin line between love and hate Sky.”
“Moving on to other topics that don’t involve my douche bag boss, are we still on for that drink today??You don’t know how badly I need it with all this going on.”
“Yeah definitely wear your sluttiest clothes I know the are cobs webs on that thang.”
“Julia…gosh we are at work.” I said my cheeks turning pink from embarrassment.
“What it’s not a lie, a sexy person like you deserves to get laid really good and we both know you haven’t been laid since that dumb ex of yours who didn’t even lay you good still.” She said with a look of annoyance on her face.
“Yeah yeah we will see where the night takes us Juls.”
Later on that night Juls and I were in the club making the most of it. The music blared in the room vibrating through my feet as I moved with the beat. I could feel the alochol feeling every part of my body. My arms rose to the air as I let the music carry me, my hips swaying side to side.
I could feel eyes on me. His eyes specifically but I honestly didn’t care not tonight. The guy infront of me leaned in closer his hands gently grabbing my waist. I smirked as I started leaning back a little slowly teasing him.
“You are trouble.” The guy said whispering in my ear, his voice teasing and his grip tightening enough to pull me closer.
I laughed, rolling my eyes. “You have no idea.”
Before I could say more the air shifted. It was like the temperature dropped and suddenly the heat and the stranger disappeared.
A hand engulfed my wrist, firm and unyeilding.I looked up and saw him towering over the guy,his jaw clenched, emerald eyes sharp and cold. His gaze flicked to the guys, I swear he almost shrank under Alessandro’s stare. The random guy quickly scrambled away leaving Alesandro and I.
"Enough.” Alessandro said, his voice dark, almost dangerous. He didn't even bother with a glance my way as he pulled me towards him, pulling me away from the crowd. I stumbled slightly, but Alessandro's grip didn't ease.
“Mr Drake, what the actual hell???” I started but he cut me off his voice low and his breath got near my ear.
Alessandro didn't blink, didn't move."Alessandro," he corrected quietly, his tone cool, dangerous. "Call me Alessandro."
“Okay Alessa—”
He didn’t allow me to finish my sentence before he cut me off. “You are reckless!”
I let out a sarcastic laugh, rubbing my wrist. "Reckless? I'm out having fun. Sorry if that doesn't fit into your neat little world of control."
He stepped closer, his gaze never leaving mine. "Grinding on some random guy in a club? That's your idea of fun?"
I raised an eyebrow, refusing to be intimidated. "And why do you care, Alessandro? You don't get to dictate what I do outside of work. You are nothing more than my boss this is quite unprofessional.”
His jaw clenched, and for a moment, he didn't say anything. The silence was quite loud after I muttered those words and I could feel the weight of his stare boring into me. There was something unsettling in the way he looked at me, like I was both infuriating and irresistible to him.
"You're acting like a child." he said finally his voice softer but still intense. "You don't know what you're getting yourself into."
I stepped forward, my heart pounding in my chest. "And what exactly am I getting into, Alessandro? Enlighten me."
He didn't answer right away, his eyes looking to the side as if he were wrestling with something inside himself. Then in one swift motion he grabbed my arm again, this time gentler but firm, and pulled me toward the sleek black car that was parked at the curb.
"I'm taking you home." he muttered, his tone leaving no room for argument.
"I'm not a damsel in distress, you know. I know you know my current situation but that doesn’t mean you should make me out to be a charity case.”
I shot back, but the truth was, I was too tired to fight anymore. The alcohol had already worn me out leaving me feeling heavy and drained
Alessandro didn't respond. He opened the car door and gestured for me to get in.
“No” I said as I crossed my arms across my chest.
“Don’t make this difficult Sky. Would your prefer I carry you?”he said with his eyes full of determination.
I honestly didn’t have it in me to fight anymore I ended up just stepping inside.
The drive was tense. I could feel his gaze on me every few seconds, but I kept my eyes firmly on the passing city lights, trying to ignore the thoughts running in my mind. Why did he care? Why was he always so intense around me? It wasn't just the typical boss-employee dynamic. There was something more, something unspoken but very powerful.
The minute he stopped at my apartment building I didn’t leave room for conversation I got out and slammed the door walking forward without a second glance back.
“Skylar.” Alessandro commanded. I hated how my body would listen to his authoritative tone.
“What?” I said not bothering to turn around. “Haven’t you done enough tonight??”
There was a pause and I could feel his eyes on me. “Don’t walk away from me.”
I turned on my heel glaring at him. “I’m home now, so this is where you leave. Stop trying to be my knight in shining armor.”
His expression hardened. “Don’t flatter yourself, you were making a scene there and I couldn’t let you further embarrass yourself.”
A bitter laugh escaped me. “ Embarrass myself?Right, because what I do reflects on you?”
He starts walking towards me his emerald eyes darkening but I held my ground. “You don’t get, do you? You think I’m doing this out of concern?”
“Then why are you here Alessandro? If you despise me soo much?”
His jaw tightened and for a moment the mask slipped. There was something in his eyes I just couldn’t decipher.
“Because whether you like it or not Skylar.” He said as he got closer and closer to me. “You are my responsibility now. This conversation is over now.”
