Chapter Eight It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The sun poured through the windshield as Achim drove us down the empty highway. Traffic had been light and non-existent at certain points in the city. On such a beautiful picturesque day, the sight of an empty highway was completely out of the ordinary for a vibrant city like New Orleans. Everyone in the city had decided it was better to stay at home, as opposed to venturing out in public. I could hardly blame them. After a weeklong series of protests and violent riots that followed the news surrounding Bill Devers gruesome murder, there was hardly anybody in New Orleans who could summon the energy or the courage to risk leaving the safety of their homes.
