Chapter Nine I could feel the heat pulsing from the light bulb in the lamp next to my bed. Its bright white light wasn’t pleasing to my sensitive eyes, causing my brain to scream for shade. A pretty light skinned black lady wearing scrubs and latex gloves, walked up to my bedside. She wrapped the blood pressure gauge around my arm before pumping air into it, tightening the gauge until my fingers began tingling. Satisfied with her readings, she deflated the gauge and moved towards the IV drip hanging over my bed. After checking my IV, she adjusted the dressing on my wounds, then patted me on my shoulder. “I see you finally woke up,” she said with a slow country drawl? “How are you feeling Achim?” The lady looked at me with the concerned smile of a loving parent.
