Chapter Four The loud humming sound of the hotel’s broken air conditioning unit interrupted my sleep. My eyes abruptly opened, and I felt the sticky humidity choking me in this dark smothering room. In frustration, I tossed back my thin bed sheets in a vain attempt to dry and cool my sweaty skin. The more I tried to make myself comfortable, the more nothing seemed to work. The room was so stuffy, and I was feeling this heat that felt like I was slowly roasting from my insides. What I needed was some cool fresh air, a totally new environment that would allow me to breathe instead of having to struggle for each precious ounce of oxygen.
