*Alina’s POV*
After taking a shower, I slipped on my cream silk robe. I decided to spend a few minutes taking in the sunrise as I thought about my uncertain future. I stood on my terrace, taking in the chilly air, and gazing at the sunrise. The dark sky slowly became bright amber, and the sun started to peek out from behind the pink clouds. I didn’t bother going to sleep last night. After crying until my eyes seemed to run out of tears, I gathered whatever strength I had left to embrace the decision I made. I may have been confident in front of everyone last night, but that confidence seemed to evaporate as soon as I was by myself. I heard a knock on my bedroom door. “Heiress, I brought you some breakfast,” Mrs. Hall, our housekeeper announced behind the closed door. I opened the door and greeted her with a small smile, “Thank you, Mrs. Hall.” “You’re welcome dear,” she said. “Are you feeling better? I was worried when I heard what happened last night.” She asked as she gently touched my cheek. “I am, and I am sure I will feel even better after I have had your delicious homemade waffles.” She shouldn’t worry. I didn’t want anyone to worry about me.
After Mrs. Hall left, I finished my breakfast quietly. I tried to focus only on the mouthwatering buttery waffles, the sweet syrup, and the tart pitted-cherries. I sure was going to miss Mrs. Hall’s breakfast when I left. After breakfast, I looked at the clock, 8:48 am. Well, I need to finish getting ready. I packed the last of my belongings. The last thing I put in my bag was the framed photo of me and my parents, that I always kept on my nightstand. I chose to wear a white sleeveless blouse under a long-sleeved white chiffon cascade cardigan, black leggings, and my favorite black high-heeled booties. After I brushed the curls from my hair that was still in place from last night’s hairstyle, my hair looked wavy and shiny. I decided to wear it down. After putting on my favorite gold hoops to match my gold dove pendant, I decided to do my makeup. I wanted to go for a fierce look for my eye-makeup. I vaguely remembered the Alpha of the Dark Moon pack. I was only 8 years old when the whole incident occurred, but I still remember meeting him a few times before. He was twice my age, but even then, there was a weird connection between us. I remembered how charming and kind he was, and how radiant his smile was. Now, I have no idea what he is like. But, the last thing I wanted him to think was that I could be intimidated. I know makeup can’t magically give you courage, but it sure helped with giving a boost of self-esteem. After I finished my sultry cat-eye black gel eyeliner look, I kept the rest of the make-up look simple. I used a light amount of foundation, then I placed some soft-peach blush on my cheeks, some bronzer, and finished the look off with nude lipstick. When I felt satisfied with my look, I decided to head downstairs for a cup of coffee.
It was 11:45 am. Mum and I have been sitting on the living room sofa, holding each other’s hands in silence for about an hour. Dad didn’t look directly at me since I came downstairs. I stole a few glances at him, and his eyes are bloodshot from crying and lack of sleep. I know I am hurting my parents with my decision, but I know in my heart that I am making the right decision to save my pack. “Alpha,” Mikail said as he placed a hand on my dad’s shoulder, dad had been staring out of the window since I got downstairs. He wouldn’t talk to anyone. “I know,” dad said, “I saw the silver range rover at the front gate.” Mikail nodded. He then met my eyes, he walked over to me and patted my head. He then left the room. I began to stand up, but mum gripped my hand tighter. “I have to go now, mum,” I said softly as I embraced her. She nodded and wiped a tear as she stood up. I walked up to my father. “Dad,” I started to say when he turned to face me and enveloped me in a tight hug. “I love you, Lena,” he said through sobs. I didn’t realize I was crying too until he wiped my tears and kissed my forehead.
Just as I was about to walk out of the door, Sahil stood in front of it, blocking my way. “You’re not going anywhere!” he yelled as he grabbed my suitcase from my hand and threw it a few feet away into the hallway. “Sahil!” Mikail yelled at him. “I know you’re upset, and that Alina is like a sister to you but, don’t forget she is the heiress of this pack!” “That’s one of the reasons why I am stopping her!” Sahil argued with his father. “If you really care for this pack, you will stay here!” He yelled, this time looking directly at me. “What do you mean?” I asked. “If you become the Luna of the Dark Moon pack, you will be forfeiting your role as Alpha of the Gold Crescent pack. The Alpha of the Dark Moon pack can claim a role of Alpha over this pack because you're his Luna.” I was beginning to understand what he was hinting at now. “That won’t happen,” I said calmly. “How do you know?” Sahil argued. “You don’t even know who he really is, how can you be sure he wouldn’t try to dominate you and force our pack to accept him as Alpha?” “Because I -” “You know that there is a rule that only someone with the Gold Crescent bloodline can become our Alpha,” Sahil continued, interrupting me. He wasn’t giving me a chance to speak and this whole ordeal was beginning to weigh heavy on my nerves.
“ENOUGH,” I growled at Sahil. He and everyone around us jumped a little as I raised my voice. “Enough, brother. I will never let anyone bully our pack into submission. Every action I take is for the benefit of the pack.” He looked at me with tears brimming his eyes, and his anger was beaming off of him in waves. He just stood there glaring at me as I continued, “I have sent a letter to King Jordan of the werewolves. I alerted him of our situation, and I asked him to accept you as the next heir of the Gold Crescent pack.” Sahil’s eyes widened in shock, “But, but I can’t be the next Alpha I-” “You can, and you will. We all know that your clan was the ruler of the pack before my clan. After your clan didn’t have a male heir, it was passed to our clan. Ever since that time, your clan has served us with utmost loyalty, dedication, and honesty. Plus, you have the Alpha gene.” I interrupted him. He looked so confused, and he seemed genuinely heartbroken by my words. “Lena is right,” dad said, “I have trained you and taught you personally, son. You would make a great Alpha.” “I accept Alina’s decision too,” Mum said. Sahil gave me a frustrated glare. Then he embraced me while letting out a defeated sigh. “I thought my argument would be enough to keep you here.” He said softly through tears. I pulled away from him gently and wiped his tears. “I have to go, it’s the only way.” He nodded as he slowly went over to my suitcase and picked it up. He started through the door and left my luggage outside of the gate. After he exchanged heated growls and stares at the man beside the car. He disappeared into the woods, for a run.
