Chapter 5

*Alina’s POV* It was so cold that I could see my breath. I looked around to see that I was in a forest with bare trees. I was wearing a satin white dress, with a white fur-lined cloak. I turned around, causing my hood to fall down. The fog was dense but I could see the same grey/black wolf from my previous dream, just staring at me. He shifted into a man, I couldn’t make out much in the fog, but I could see his well-formed abs, broad shoulders, and his beard. His blue eyes seemed to glow even in this new human form. Before I could understand what was happening, I felt him behind me, pulling me back into his hard chest. His mouth was so close to my ears, I could feel his warm breath on the side of my neck. His hands tightly held both of my shoulders. “You will be mine soon, dove” he whispered to me as he moved his right hand down my arm, then placed it on my hip. “Who are you?” I managed to say. “You’ll know soon enough,” he answered.  Just then, I heard a loud howl. My eyes shot open. I looked around at the white walls, and I looked down to see a white comforter covering me. I was still wearing my dress from the ball. “Dad!?” I shouted. “Mum!” Sahil burst into my room. “Are you okay, Lena?” He asked as he ran toward my bed, embracing me. “Yeah,” I said as we pulled away. “I just...I have a headache,” I said as I gently massaged my right temple. “What happened?” I asked. “I’m not sure,” Sahil said, “Another pack seemed to attack us, but the pack doctor said they may have used dark magic, and that caused you to faint.” “Dark magic?” I asked. Sahil nodded... “You need to rest,” he said as he got up from the bed, “I will ask the maids to send up some food and water.” “No!” I interrupted him, as I got out of bed. “I need to see mum and dad. I need to find out if they are alright, and ask them what happened.” Before he could stop me I quickly walked out of the room. Sahil followed me out and closed the door behind him.  “I will put up strong protection charms,” Daniyal said as he paced back and forth in his office. “I will call my native pack to come and assist us as well,” Zara added. “What’s going on?” I asked as I entered, Sahil followed me into the office as well. “It’s nothing you need to worry about Heiress,” Mikail said, “Sahil, take Lena back to her room,” Zara added.  *Third POV* “No, mum - Dad, at least you tell me what’s going on!” Alina pleaded as she walked up to her father. He lovingly cupped her face, his eyes were filled with love, anger, and another emotion that Alina never saw in his eyes before: fear. “Come,” Daniyal said as he led Alina to a black sofa in the room. When they sat, he began slowly. “You know that there are certain powers, magical powers that I have, as well as other creatures, have mastered, right?” Alina nodded her head, as she willed her father to continue. “Well,” Daniyal continued as he let out a sigh, “there is a pack - the Dark Moon pack,” Alina gasped as her father mentioned the Dark Moon pack. She learned about them from her pack tutors, the Dark Moon pack blamed her father for a m******e that happened about ten years ago, and since then, both packs have been sworn enemies. “They are the ones who attacked us tonight, right?” Alina asked. “Yes,” Zara said as she sat next down on the sofa next to Alina, and reached for Alina’s hand. “They have decided to exact revenge on us, but don’t worry about this. Just go and rest while we handle it,” Zara said as she held her baby girl’s hand, and kissed her forehead.  “Mum please!” Alina begged, “Don’t hide anything from me. I have a right to know. I want to defend my pack as well. I am an Alpha’s and an Alpha Luna’s daughter.” “You both even said yourself,” Alina continued as she looked at both her mum and dad, “I have the capability to become an Alpha Luna as well.” “You do Habibi,” Daniyal said. “It’s just that the situation is more complicated and we need some time to sort it out.” He continued. “I don’t want to do this, but I will utilize my Alpha power to command you all if you refuse to tell me,” Alina said. Everyone knew what Alina meant. At a young age, Alina had shifted, and she had the ability to invoke her powers to command others to listen or obey her, like a natural Alpha. She only used it twice. Once, to command a younger she-wolf into telling her the name of her r****t so he could be punished. The second and last time was to command a rogue wolf to surrender himself to Alpha Daniyal. She was powerful for her age. “That’s it.” “You will tell me in this instance about what threatens our pack.” Alina’s voice reverberated throughout the room. “Heiress,” Mikail started, “The Alpha of the Dark Moon pack has threatened to unleash an attack fueled by dark magic to annihilate our pack within 48 hours,” “Well, 45 now,” Junaid interrupted. Mikail glared at Junaid before continuing. “Unless.” He stopped. “Unless what?” Alina asked. “Unless we fulfill his condition,” Zara answered quietly as a single tear ran down her face, and she looked down at the floor. Alina had rarely seen her mother cry. Her mother was always a strong and happy person. “mum, why are you crying?” Alina asked as she wiped her mother’s tears. “Because, my love, his condition is deplorable,” Zara said as she moved a piece of Alina’s hair behind her ear. “Please tell me what the condition is.” Alina pleaded to no one in particular. She knew that probably no one would answer. Her heart was tensing up as the suspense continued. “He wants you as his bride,” Mikail answered in a low voice. His eyes were filled with anger.  “I’ll go,” Alina answered. “YOU WILL NOT!” Daniyal yelled as he stood up from the sofa. “I’m your Alpha and I command you to obey!” “Alpha Daniyal,” Alina started, “I respectfully refuse to accept your command.” Daniyal’s eyes widened with anger and frustration as Alina continued. “I am an Alpha’s and an Alpha Luna’s daughter, the sole heiress of the Gold Crescent pack. I refuse to put my selfish reasons before the safety of the pack.” Alina continued. “My first duty is to the pack, then to you all,” Alina said as she looked at her parents, Mikail, Sahil, and Junaid. “I will go to the Alpha of the Dark Moon as his bride, and that is final.” Alina confidently walked out of the room quickly before anyone could see her cry. Daniyal was angry, but he knew Alina was right. The Alpha’s duty is first and foremost to his pack, then to his family. But how could he sacrifice his baby girl? How could he trust that Armaan would treat his daughter well? What if he made her become a slave instead of his Luna? Just the thought of this made Daniyal go blind with anger.  “She is right you know,” Zara said as she placed a hand on Daniyal’s shoulder. They were in their room now. Sleep never came and it was already 5 am. “But, she’s our baby, Zara!” Daniyal quipped as Zara pulled him into a hug. Usually her scent, her touch would calm him, but what could remedy a father’s pain? “We need to be strong for our pack, for our honor, for our girl - who is now a responsible Alpha she-wolf,” Zara said. “She is an honorable woman, and I am confident in the upbringing and training we have given her.” Zara continued. Daniyal wiped the tears from Zara’s face. He knew that she was trying to be strong again, as usual. “We will get through this, my love,” Zara whispered as she kissed Daniyal softly on the lips. “I hope so,” Daniyal said as he kissed her back.
