Chapter 3

590 Words
*Third POV* Alina descended the stairs into the grand hall that was chosen for her birthday ball. The theme was a masquerade ball. No one could help themselves from staring at Alina, as she made her entrance. Her beautiful hair was now in loose curls, her satin teal dress was sleeveless on one side and had a full sleeve on the other. Her mask was teal and was adorned with peacock feathers on the top left corner. She definitely was as alluring and captivating as a peacock. Soon the ball commenced, with a traditional belly dancing performance from a few professional dancers from Egypt. As soon as the duduk (Egyptian flute) started to play, Alina felt herself almost go into a trance-like state. Her body felt as light as air, as if the sound was awakening her soul. As soon as the darbuka drums started to play, it’s as if Alina’s waist started to move on its own. She found herself on the dance floor, as the entire crowd went mad with applause. Everyone was shocked that Alina could dance so well without ever having been trained. Alina was enjoying herself immensely, along with everyone present.  Suddenly, Alina felt the nervous feeling rise in her again. She couldn’t help but feel like someone was watching her more intently than the rest of the pack members, but she kept dancing. Away from everyone, a pair of blue eyes watched Alina closely. All he could feel was an intense desire to grab her and make her his. He heard a low growl from within himself. “MATE!!” his wolf Nox growled. “I know,” he begrudgingly replied telepathically, “I still can’t believe that the daughter of my greatest enemy is my mate!” “Anyway, I have to make my grand entry as well.” “Soon, we will have our mate in our arms, and you’ll forget all about your enmity,” Nox said. “Never! Not until I get my revenge!” he replied to his beastly counterpart. Just as he willed Nox to be silent, the music came to an end. Alina and the dancers were met with a huge round of applause and many compliments. It was time for dinner.  As Alina was about to take her seat, she felt her wolf Lux stir within her. “MATE! Mate is here!!” Lux screamed at Alina. “Where?” Alina replied. “I can sense him,” Lux continued, “but he is hiding.” “What do you mean?” Just as Alina could complete her thought, the sound of a gunshot rang out. Everyone started to panic. “Heiress! We have to get you to safety!” Mikail shouted as he pulled Alina quickly away from the chaos. “Take the heiress to safety, while I stay behind with Luna and Alpha!” Mikail shouted as he entrusted Alina to Sahil’s care. “Yes, Beta,” Sahil replied as he quickly escorted Alina safely back to the packhouse. Alina wanted to argue, and stay with her pack. They needed her, and she wanted to be there to protect them. But, she felt so weak as if her life source was being sucked out of her. Just as Sahil pulled her into the back of a large black Tahoe, she felt darkness start to envelop her. “Heiress?! Are you okay?” Sahil asked. He was worried. “Lena!?” He continued. “Go, Go!!” Sahil shouted at the driver to speed out of there as a few bullets hit the outside of the truck. As the truck sped out of there, Alina felt a huge lurch in her stomach and suddenly there was nothing but darkness.
