The wind became a scream.
Arin felt her feet leave the ground as the portal pulled everything toward it. Stones, broken pieces of the throne room, and swirling shadows were dragged into the spinning darkness. The air itself seemed to tear apart.
“Kael!” Arin cried, reaching for him.
“I’m here!” he shouted, fighting against the pull.
Their hands touched for one small moment.
Then the Queen raised her hand.
Dark power struck between them like lightning.
“No—!” Arin screamed as Kael was thrown backward.
He disappeared into the portal.
“KAEL!”
Her heart shattered.
The scream ripped out of her chest, filled with fear, grief, and terror. Her moonlight exploded in response, filling the room with blinding silver fire.
But it was too late.
The portal swallowed him.
Arin fell to her knees, her body shaking, her chest aching so badly it felt like she couldn’t breathe.
The Queen stood behind her, watching with cold eyes.
“Now you know what it feels like to lose,” she said softly. “Just like I did.”
The portal roared again.
Arin felt invisible hands grab her and lift her off the ground. She fought, but the force was too strong. The darkness pulled her in.
The world twisted.
The air vanished.
And then—
Everything went silent.
Arin fell onto hard ground.
She gasped, coughing, her hands trembling as she pushed herself up. The sky above her was dark red, filled with moving shadows and glowing mist. The ground was cracked and broken, stretching endlessly in every direction.
She was no longer in the Queen’s realm.
She was in the Abyss.
“Kael…” she whispered.
Her voice echoed, lonely and small.
There was no answer.
Tears rolled down her face. Fear wrapped around her heart like a knife.
“You are far from him now,” the Queen’s voice echoed through the empty land. She appeared in front of Arin, untouched by the fall.
“This place feeds on pain. On loss. On despair.”
Arin clenched her fists, her moonlight flickering weakly. “I will find him,” she said. “I swear.”
The Queen smiled. “Then this world will destroy you.”
Suddenly, the ground beneath Arin began to crack. Black hands reached out from below, grabbing her legs, pulling her down into the glowing red darkness.
Arin screamed, struggling, but the hands were strong.
Her moonlight flickered.
The Abyss opened wider.
