Elizabeth P.O.V
The ride home was uncomfortable. I knew Eric knew something about this, but he will not tell me anything, as if there was some unspoken code with the people living here. Once we were home, I just went inside the house, not saying anything to Eric. I was mad at him, at the town and all these secrets.
“Mom... mom! Please... I need your help... I need you.” I fell to my knees and cried. Soon I felt a coldness come over me and when I looked up, my mother was kneeling before me.
“I’m sorry, Little One, I never thought this would happen, but I can only hold this form for a bit, that is why I can’t tell you everything. You need to go down to the cellar and you need to find the door. The pendant I gave you be the key to the door. Find what needs to be found and remember I will always love you.”
Then she just disappeared, leaving me all alone once again. I need to go to the cellar, but I don’t have the pendant. Aunt Marie has it. I remember her taking it while I was sleeping and the next morning told me she has locked it up, she didn’t want it to go missing. I always wondered why, and now I know she has been hiding things from me, just like the rest of them.
“Hello auntie Marie, how have you been?” “Hello my sweetheart, I was wondering when I will hear from you. Now tell me what has been happening over there?”
“Not much... I just wanted to know that pendant off the crescent moon that my mother gave me. Do you still have it?” “Yes... I do. It is still in the safe.” “Will you please send it to me?” “Why do you want it now, Sweetheart? It has been so many years since you last worn it.”
“I know... I... I just remembered it now, whale I was cleaning mom’s office and I would like to have it again.” “That is not a good idea, Sweetheart.” “What...! I’m sorry I didn’t mean to scream, I just want it please... my mom gave it to me and I just want it back.”
“Okay fine I will send it to you... and I know there is something you won’t tell me, but remember these words, I love you Sweetheart, but you are taking the wrong road and you are going to get hurt.”
“Why are you telling me this, what are you hiding aunt Marie?” “You already know. I’ll send it to you today. Goodbye Sweetheart.” Then she just put the phone down. I have never heard my aunt speaking like that and I felt bad about it. There is no turning back now. I need to know the truth.
Well, it may take a day or two for the necklace to get here, so I might as well just finish up with the house. I called for Linda cleaning service to come and help clean the rest of the place up. I will just do my old room and the master bedroom, which belonged to my parents.
But for the rest of the day, I think I will go sit in the garden and rest... trying to process everything. The townspeople are very secretive, but yet the old Sheriff spoke so freely about everything to me as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Maybe it is because he is sick. He doesn’t know that I didn’t grow up here. He can’t even remember my parents’ death.
Then I felt it... Eric is near. Since I got here, my senses have become stronger and I can sense almost everyone near me. I can’t really explain it, but the people here feel almost not all human if I can state it that way. Then there are some that I have to try my best to keep my cool, as if something in me wants to kill them.
I felt the darkness in me grew as well since I got here and it worries me. What if I’m the bad guy? What if I hurt an innocent?
“Hey you...am I interrupting something here?” “O hey no I was just thinking...” “About what?” “This town and the people living here.” Eric looked down at the ground, not really knowing what to say to that.
“Eric... please tell me. I know you are hiding something from me... please...” “Elizabeth, I don’t know if you're ready... I mean there are things you need to find out for yourself or you won’t believe anything.” “Eric please just try me...” “Okay...”
He look at the garden and took a big breath. “So you are by now aware that you parent’s may have done things you didn’t know about.” “Yes I have realized that.” “So you have the idea that you are not living in a world you thought you were.” “Ya... I kind of started catching on to that part.”
“Elizabeth, what would you say if I would have told you I have a counterpart.” “A counterpart... like a... split personality?” “You can say that, but I can change form... into my counterpart.”
“Okay, now you are going Sci-Fi on me here. You want to tell me you can change form like a Shape-Shifter.” “Ya...” “Ha ha ha... I’m sorry I didn’t mean to laugh, but really, how gullible do you think I am.”
“Now you know why I said nothing. You will only believe what you find out yourself, not what anyone is telling you.” “No, I’m really sorry. You caught me off guard for a moment there. Will you show me?”
Eric looked around him as if he was going to reveal a big secret to me and I must admit... I thought he was making fun of me until... “Elizabeth I need you to stay calm and what I’m about to show you will have a massive impact on your mind, Please whatever happens... don’t kill me.” “Why... why would I kill you?” “Just keep an open mind please.” Not knowing what to say to that, I just gave him a nod.
He stood a few paces away from me as he just said, “Remember it’s still me,” and then he change in less that a second into a huge Black Panther, right in front of me. I looked at him with my eyes as wide as can be, not believing what I’m seeing. He just sat there looking at me, swaying his tail.
Then I felt this urge in me, as if the darkness in me was rising. As if the cat could read my mind, he stood up and took a few paces away from me. I shook my head and forced the feelings that were surfacing down, and the cat once again just sat and looked at me.
“This is not real. This can’t be real... that means the stories my mother told me were true. That means...” The cat moved quickly behind a tree and out came Eric... only in shorts. I could feel my cheeks warming up as he was coming closer.
“So you... are a cat?” “I’m not a cat... I’m a Black Panther.” “O... sorry.” “You can relax now beautiful, I will not bite. Well... maybe not too hard.” “O now I feel so much better, thank you.” I said and he just laughed.
“Does it hurt?” “Not anymore, the first fifty shifts hurts like hell, but after that you don’t even feel it.” “If you shift, it's still you... I mean, do you still think like a human or do you become more animal like?” “Well, I’m still there and I can still see and feel everything Phantom does, but he is mostly in control.”
“Phantom...?” “My counterpart. For instance, if Phantom wanted to he can come to the front now and speak to you or we can both be here speaking to you.” “You’ve... lost me.”
“Okay, imagine there is a sitting room in your mind and you can see in your mind’s eye you are sitting there. That’s what it is like in my mind, I can literally sit there and Phantom can control my body, or vice versa. Or we can both control my body at the same time. Just hold on a moment...” He looked down for a moment and when he looked back up at me, his one eye was black and the other one brown.
“Um Eric... your eye...” “Hey Angle, I was wondering when I will meet you.” I nearly jumped out of my chair when I heard his voice. It was so deep and gruff and the surrounding light almost became dark as the night. “Please don’t be afraid, I will never hurt you.” He said, and it almost sounded like a purr and strangely, I’m not scared of him.
“See... now we are both in control of my body. Do you understand now?” Eric’s voice came through. “So your counterpart can actually speak, it’s not all wild?” “Ha ha ha... yes I can speak and no I’m not all wild animal like.” “Wow... that’s amazing.” I said as I lean in closer to look at his eyes, but then the feeling resurfaced and I had to turn away to push it down.
As I turned back to see, Eric’s eyes were both brown, and I was a little disappointed. I wanted to know more. “I’m... sorry I just don’t understand why I keep on getting this rage... this feeling....”
“The feeling to kill me?” looking down at the ground, I felt ashamed at my own feelings. “Don’t worry too much about it, it is in your blood. That is why all Hunters have their pendants. It helps them to control those urges.”
“Hunters....?” “Yes, you are a Hunter Elizabeth. Your gifts are what make’s you one. There is not a lot of you, but there are enough.” “Enough to do what?” “Enough... to kill us all if the rules were not in place.”
“What rules...?” “Rules that your parents made. That no Supernatural, or people who lives in the shadows, may be hurt or killed as long as they do not hurt innocence. Even though there are still Hunters hurting them wrongfully, but that is minimal.”
“So how many sorts of shifters are there?” “There are quite a few of us out there. Some are so rare that many don’t even know if they still exist and then there are those that are more of... the ones who lives in packs.” “Like wolves...” “Yes like wolves.”
“The other night there were these two animals I....” “That was me and the Beta of the wolf pack that lives here.” “There is an actual wolf pack living here... does the rest of the town...” “Yes, they know, that is who we call the people living in the shadows. They know about our world but they are not really part of it.”
“So they all knew who I was when I came back, but did not think to tell me about it?” “I don’t think that they were sure if you knew or how you would have reacted to them telling you, or if you even had the gift.” “Are there more Hunters in town?” “Two of them moved into town just after you arrived.”
“I knew I saw that guy somewhere. He was here at my house, but my father never allowed him to enter the house.” “Which guy...?” “The one with the scar over his face. I need to speak to them to find out what they know.”
“Elizabeth, they are not like your father and mother were. They are still old school, they still think we all must die. You need to be careful around them.” “I still need to speak with them.” “Fine... I know I can't change your mind, but Jarred and I will come with you.”
“Jarred...?” “The Beta of the pack, you ran into him the other morning.” “O no... It will be better if I go alone if they are, as you say, it will be safer if I go alone. I know how to protect myself.”
I knew he didn’t like it, but I had to do this on my own. Driving back to town for the second time today and it felt like I was taking forever to get there, as if there was something keeping me from town, but soon I reached it and was in front of Pam’s Inn.
They were sitting outside on the porch as if they were waiting for me. “Okay, Elizabeth, now is not the time to be weak. You can do this and don’t take crap from them.” I gave myself a little pep talk before exiting my car.
The surrounding light was dark, not the same dark as Phantom or my father. The darkness I saw in them was killer darkness, the darkness that I would have arrested or killed if I were still in the city.
“We were wondering when you would come and great us?” “O is that so...” “Ha ha ha you are just like your father.” “What are you doing here?” As I asked that, I could feel a lot of presence around us and that they were not human and, of course, Eric, he was always near.
They were also looking around and fidgeting in their seats. “I see you did not come alone...” “Now why would I do that?” “You don’t trust us?” “Hahaha, now that is an understatement.” The guy with the scar on his face jumped out of his chair and his face turn a little red.
“But you are trusting them!” “Careful, know you’re going to explode and I don’t trust anyone.” Which was a lie. I trusted Eric. I don’t know why, but I did. He made me feel safe. Trust was a feeling I hadn’t had in a very long time. Not soon after that, Eric was next to me and Jarred at my back. I could see the guy reaching for his knife and I put my hand at my back, locking my fingers over my gun.
“Do you ever wondered how your parents died... Elizabeth?” As he said that, the darkness I saw in him became even darker. It looked like it can swallow him up. “What do you know about that?” I asked him, knowing he was going to lie. “You don’t think it is by chance that your parents died and two months later a wolf pack moved in.”
“Don’t you dare blame us, remember you are on my land.” Jarred said at my back. “O and here I thought the town was free land, only the woods belonged to you and not even you, it belonged to your Alpha.” Free land... Alpha... I was at a lost but isn't going to show that.
“I’ll be careful if I were you, especially when it comes to my parents and I have heard enough. I don’t trust you, so enjoy your stay here, but if you hurt anyone here, you will answer to me.” As I said that I gave him a smile, that said don’t try me I’m a lot crazier than you think. I turned around and headed to the Diner without a word coming from the guy with the scar.
Once seated in the Diner with Eric and Jarred across from me, I order a cup of coffee and everyone in the Diner was quiet. Knowing I knew about the live.
“So you want to tell me about those guys?” “All we know so far is... they are here for you. We are not sure what they want to do, but we have guys watching them from the shadows.” Jarred said and I’m sure that they can feel wolves watching them and that will make them even more aggressive.
“Elizabeth, I can see your mind is busy. Please stop worrying about that. We have humans watching them so they will sense nothing.” Jarred said, looking a little worried about his own statement. “Why will they be here because of me, I didn’t even know about anything until this morning.?” “I don’t know if they know that and... they were in town... the night your parents died.”
“How... how do you know this Jarred you weren’t even here?” “Your parents meant a great deal to all Supernatural and we were always looking and trying to protect them.” “So they murdered my parents?” “We are not a hundred percent sure, but yes we think so.”
This is getting so frustrating. They are grasping at air; they have nothing. I will have to investigate, but first I need to get down in the cellar.
“Why were my parents so important to you?” They just looked at each other, like they were having a secret discussion, and then back at me. “Seriously guys! I’m tired of all the secrecy. I want to know now.”
“I will handle this, boys. Why don’t you sit there at the counter for a bit.” Mrs. Dawson said as she scooted them out of the booth. I’m not in the mood for her. Why must she always intervene? “I’m sorry darling, I should have sat down with you the moment you came back to town and had the talk.”
O my word... please help me. “Your parents were of the purest and strongest Hunters you can get. You can even say that they were royalty in the Hunter’s world.” “Royalty....?” Well, that explains a lot about her attentions. “They were the leaders of the Hunters, and that made them powerful, but it also put them in a lot of danger. The rules they made did not sit well with all Hunters.” She said as she looked out of the window towards the two guys sitting on the porch.
“They made a rule that this town is free land, that means any Supernatural that is not harmful to innocence may live in the town. The second rule was that no Pack, Coven or Clan can be harmed unless they are harmful to innocence. Well, some Hunters thought they were unfair, that they are forgetting why Hunters exist.”
“I’m sorry for asking Mrs. Dawson, but how do you know so much. I can see in your eyes you are not a Hunter.” “Ha ha ha no Darling I’m not, but my brother is... or was. He died when he was fighting against a Tiger Shifter. That was before your parents made the rules.” That is so weird. My aunt also did not have the gift or curse, I’m not sure yet, but my mother did. I wonder what that is all about.
“Do you think my parents made a mistake when they made the rules?” Mrs. Dawson looked out of the window and then looked back at me. And that snake is as clear as day in her eyes.
“No, darling, I think they made the right choice, but you know going on this journey of discovery can be dangerous. I think it’s best if my son Sheriff Dawson assists you. He knows so much about everything and... that way he can be close to you when you need help.”
With that statement made, I can feel anger coming from the counter as both Panther and Wolf are getting agitated with her. I guess they have become somewhat protective of me and that is also something I have to inquire about. “Thank you Mrs. Dawson, but I’m sure he has his hands full already with all his work and I do work at my best when I’m alone. But... but if I really need help, I will ask him, I promise.”
Mrs. Dawson looked at me half in discuss and then at the two standing at the counter. “Yes, I’m sure you will. Have a nice day Elizabeth.” “Thank you Mrs. Dawson you too.” She stood up and grab her bag as she left for the door and turned to me one more time. “Be careful who you trust. Some may stab you in the back.” Then she left.
The boys came and sit in front of me again, still looking at the door. “I really don’t like her.” Eric said. Jarred just nod in confirmation. “What is the deal with you guys? I could feel your anger all the way here.”
“She is putting herself in were she doesn’t belong.” Jarred said as he looked at me and I could see his one eye turning black, as did Eric’s eye. “Okay, calm down and tell me why all this protectiveness? The last I saw you Jarred, you tried to kill me.”
“I wasn't trying to kill you, I just didn’t recognize you... that’s all.” “Hm...” “Look Elizabeth we may have had a ruff start, but the pack and I are here if you need any help and that is a promise.”
“Don’t worry Jarred, I will be by her side if she needs anything.” “Ya, I’m sure you will be... Kitty.” “Seriously guys...talk about testosterone, it is late and I’m tired so you two can go at each other if you want to, but I’m going home.” “Can I drive with you my bike is kind of at your house.” “Sure as long as you drive, I don’t think my eyes is going to stay open for much longer.”
“Sure, Beautiful, I’ll drive you home.” O my word please give me patience, I thought to myself “Good night Jarred.” Good night Elizabeth and sleep well.”
As Eric was driving us home, my mind was all over the place. At least I know what I am and why I have the instincts I have, but why would my parents have kept this from me. Was I too young, or didn’t they want me part of this world? Then I felt darkness coming, and it took me into a deep sleep.
“Mom... Dad...” I said as I run into my mother’s arms, holding onto her, longing for her hug and kisses. “Hey there, Little One. Don’t cry Baby I got you.” She said as she tightened her hold on me.
“Hello my Little Flower.” “Dad!” I said as he took me out of my mother’s hold and clamped me to him. As I smelled my father’s scent, I started crying all over again. I missed them so much. “Little Flower, we don’t have long, we need to talk.” I looked around me and saw endless flower fields with a water stream flowing thru and an enormous Willow tree at my father’s back.
“Where are we and how... how am I here?” “O Baby there is a lot you don’t know.” My mother said as she looked at me with a wide smile. “It was you I saw at the house?” “Yes, Little One it was me. I know a few people in the after live. Unfortunately, we can only do this once and I cannot be in the house anymore.”
"So... so this will be the last time I see you.” “Yes my Little Flower... this will be the last, but we will always look over you and be with you.” We sat down under the Willow tree and my father started talking.
“We’ve seen that you have been busy Flower, finding everything out. Which is a good thing. We never thought that our time with you would have been cut so short.” “Dad, who did this? Who took you away from me?” “We are not sure, Flower, but please be careful of Zander, the man with the scar on his face. He was one of the men who was opposed to the rules we made.”
“Do you think it was him?” “We do, but we don’t have any proof.” “I will find the proof, daddy, I will find it.” “Not now, Little One, you have more important work to do now. You need to go down into the cellar as soon as you get your pendant and look through the journals, all the trips your father and I took are in them and the people we have signed the peace treaty with.”
“Flower there is chaos in the shadow world since your mother and I have passed, you need to take your place at head of the Hunters and repair the damage that was made.” “But how do I do that, I don’t even know what to say, or how to lead a group of Hunters. What if they don’t want me there? What if they try to kill me?”
“Flower, look at me. You are stronger than you think. The things you learned by instinct is remarkable. It took your mother and me years of learning and training. It is your birth right and they have to respect you... it is law.” “You are going to face danger, Little One, but trust Eric and the Pack, they will protect you no matter what.”
“Why...why would they protect a Hunter?” “Because you are the light and the darkness, best of both and you are the one that will restore peace between everyone.” “Mom I don’t...” “Little One don’t... there is a leader within you and it came out when you were faced with Zander and Logan, don’t tell me you didn’t feel it.” “I... I don’t know what I felt.”
“Flower you felt the Royal blood in you taking over the power you hold. You know you are the first ever Hunter to be able to control herself between Supernatural without her pendant.” “What is with the pendant anyway?” “It was made by a very old and powerful Witch, she was a very good friend of mine and she gave me the pendant because I didn’t want to kill her. When your father and I decided to make the laws we had pendants made for everyone, so that they will not have the urge to kill all the time and that they could see not all Supernatural are bad. Most of them just wanted to live in peace as all do.”
“They may not be fully human Flower, but they are still human.” “I know dad... I wish that you could come home with me.” “I know Flower... I know, but just know that your mother and I are at peace and we believe in you. We know you will make the right choices.”
A big wind blew, and I got cold, quickly. “What is happening?” “We don’t have long anymore, Little One. We have to go.” “But I’m not ready mamma!” “You are Little One. We love you so, so much and we will always be with you. Trust in yourself.”
“Flower, look in the left draw of my desk. There is a little wooden box with your mother and my pendants. Keep them with you and you will feel us with you always. I love you, my Little Flower, and you have become the woman that I always knew you would be.” He grabbed me and my mother and gave us a bear hug. As they both kissed the top of my head, it carried me out of the dream.
I woke up in my bed wrapped in my blanket. Feeling at peace, but sad at the same time. I missed them already, so I ran to my father’s office and pooled out the box. In there were two hearts on chains and both made of silver. I wrapped them around my arm as if they were bracelets and its true I felt my parents’ presence around me as if they were there. I climbed back into bed and had a restful night's sleep.
