Although many scientists and criminologists had begun to experiment with and use a rudimentary form of fingerprinting as a means of identification, it was not until 1900 that fingerprinting was introduced in England as a positive means of identifying those responsible for criminal acts. Similarly, it would be many years before forensic science, as we now know it, would be introduced and used as an aid in the solving of crime.
