mistakes

366 Words
You have committed many of them. But you've always managed to escape the consequences, until now. Do you know that flash out of the corner of your eye, you know, that movement in peripheral vision out of sight? And then, when you look up, there's nothing there. That was one of the occasions when you made a mistake. That creepy feeling that you're being watched, that there's something dark and sinister nearby that can see you? It is a warning, tens of thousands of years of instinct that run through your body tell you that you are about to make a mistake. And that inexplicable blow, that cool cut that you do not remember doing, those times you wake up sweating, screaming and breathing as if you just ran a marathon and you do not know why? Those are the times when you almost get caught. What are they? Well, it's hard to explain, imagine trying to explain to a blind man the color red. You can not really explain, you have to experience it for yourself. And you will not want to experience that. I can tell you that for them you are only one thing: food. And they can keep you alive for a long time while they eat. You've probably heard at least one unexplainable sound while reading this. Maybe it's nothing; but sometimes, it's one of them trying to break through, to find you. But they will not, no, unless you make a mistake. And when you commit it, it's like shaking a piece of meat in front of a pack of hungry wolves. Sometimes they do not react fast enough, sometimes they do. There have been so many unresolved disappearances in every century, that it is difficult to know how many of those people were victims of their own kind and how many simply made too many mistakes. You see, when people are more concerned about making mistakes, they tend to spoil everything else. And what are those mistakes that can be made? If I told you, you would make sure you did not commit them anymore, and that would be a real pity. We almost caught you the last time.
