The driver was speeding, as if Chris would puke in his car any second.
But Chris just leaned against the window quietly, not saying a word.
Daicy sneakily glanced at him, saw his eyes closed, and turned back, lowering her head to look at her phone. Subconsciously, she opened the chat interface with Andy.
The last time they talked was two months ago. She asked if he would come back to City L for the summer vacation, and he said he wasn't sure, and it depended on the arrangements.
And indeed, he didn't come back this summer.
She was actually a little sad because of Andy's distant and indifferent reaction.
But she knew that forced relationships were never sweet, and love was always a strange thing. Mutual affection was never an easy thing to come by.
Without realizing it, she typed a few words in the chat: "Tell you sth interesting, Chris was my desk mate at my junior high school ."
The phone screen lit up for a while. She hesitated, but she didn't press the send button in the end.
Just at the moment of her hesitation, Chris slowly opened his eyes. His eyesight had always been good, and he easily read the words on the screen.
Suddenly, his temples throbbed. He pressed it twice, took a deep breath, and then stared at the side of her face --- a curve forming at the corner of his mouth.
If Daicy had seen it, she would have felt familiar and uncomfortable.
Because... That kind of gaze was when Chris looked at his private belongings.
Daicy snapped out of her thoughts at the driver's yelling.
Her attention shifted away from the phone screen. She turned her head and found that Chris had already opened the car door himself and got out, swaying unsteadily.
She got out of the car and followed him quickly.
She thought that he would be able to stand properly and walk fine. But at the next second after she got out of the car, he stumbled and bumped into the roadside railing.
Daicy was frightened and quickly rushed to hold him.
Luckily, he seemed still conscious. With a gentle pull, he bumped into her arms.
She swayed a bit before steadying him. He was almost leaning on her shoulders. She felt it was exhausting.
She pushed him a bit, and he seemed to withdraw some strength.
The two of them were standing at the entrance of the Royal Palace Hotel.
Daicy glanced at the magnificent gate of the hotel and mentally complained about how there wasn't even a doorman.
But Chris didn't give her time to think.
His breath was hot and damp above her head, like a thick dark cloud on a hot summer day.
She was sweating lightly, feeling extremely hot.
She looked up at him. But because they were so close, she could only see his neck and jawline.
His Adam's apple was right in front of her eyes, and she instinctively looked away, feeling as if she had been burned.
"Let me help you to check in," she said.
He made a soft sound above her head, still seeming a bit drunk, and the smell of alcohol lingered around her.
The well-dressed receptionist at the front desk glanced at the two of them but didn't say much.
During this time, Daicy also felt that Chris didn't seem too drunk. Whenever she asked him where his room was, he could answer her clearly.
After they entered the elevator, Chris stepped back a bit to allow Daicy to breathe properly.
She leaned against the corner in the elevator, while Chris stood diagonally in front of her with a clean, unmarked mirror beside him.
She glanced in the mirror and realized that she looked a bit disheveled at the moment, with wrinkled clothes and messy hair from helping him earlier.
She straightened herself in front of the mirror, only realizing afterward that her cheeks were flushed.
It was understandable. Suddenly, being so close to a guy, blushing was only natural.
The elevator arrived.
Chris didn't let her help him and walked forward on his own. Although he was still swaying a bit, he was much better than before. At least he wouldn't bump into the wall again.
She just silently followed behind him and looked at the back of his head, thinking about other things.
She thought that Chris was Andy's university classmate and should know something about Andy. She wanted to ask him in private but didn't know how to start.
After much consideration, she decided to give up this time.
Chris was drunk, it wasn't a good time to ask these things. She could ask later.
They arrived at his room door. He took out the room card from his pocket. With a single swipe, the door opened.
He turned the handle and looked back at Daicy, who was following him like a little rabbit.
They locked eyes. His hazy gaze was still bright.
Daicy felt her heart race.
