Only when Mr. Linton called everyone to have dinner and Chris finally stood up and set the peach down.
Daicy noticed that the peach seemed to have been deformed from his squeezing - clear fingerprints marked its broken surface, with a few drops of juice seeping out.
She stared at his tall figure intently. He had grown much taller than before, but his temperament remained cool and stubborn. It seemed his irritable temper hadn't changed either.
Back in junior high school, he had always had a hobby of squeezing things - fruits, papers, balls, rubbers... She couldn't quite remember clearly, but she did recall that his desk was always cluttered with unrecognizable objects he had broken.
Mrs. Linton looked at Chris quietly eating his meal, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
Although this boy had some strange quirks, she viewed him through a good filter because he was her son Andy's classmate.
Besides, this boy had a real vibrant energy, tall stature, handsome features, and an exceptionally outstanding temperament. According to her son, this classmate came from quite a wealthy family. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
Midway through the meal, Mr. Linton suddenly brought out some alcohol, pulling Chris to join him.
Chris didn't refuse. The two clinked glasses heartily at the table.
Mrs. Linton and Daicy chatted and laughed on the side.
The four of them seemed to be in perfect harmony.
Once the meal was finished and the alcohol consumed, Mrs. Linton and Daicy went to tidy up the kitchen. It was then that Mrs. Linton secretly asked Daicy, "What kind of person is Chris?"
Daicy stared at the water flowing beneath the faucet and replied, "What do you think, Auntie?"
"Weird, but not bad," Mrs. Linton said.
"Yeah. I think so too. He has a temper, but he's not the kind of person who gets mad for no reason. You could say he's... rather self-concerned. In his world, it's only himself."
Mrs. Linton seemed to grasp the meaning, then smiled and said, "See, my son is better, right? He's more gentle and interesting, even if he's not as handsome as Chris."
Daicy glanced up, her cheeks turning red once again.
By the time Daicy walked out of the kitchen, it was already around eight in the evening.
Mr. Linton sat on the couch with a flushed face and watched TV casually.
Chris sat at the other end of the couch. His head lowered.
He was engrossed in his phone. The screen lit up and then went dark and then lit up again. The flashing light reflected on his face.
Daicy could vaguely see his bright eyes, glistening with moisture.
He suddenly looked up as if sensing her gaze.
Daicy's heart skipped a beat! Because his gaze was just too piercing. But those fiercely intense eyes were now filled with a rare hint of drunkenness and softness.
After escaping from his gaze, she found it difficult to calm down.
His face was so flushed, his originally fair skin now was deep red, as if it had been roasted.
His eyes were hazy, even his hair exuding a scent of alcohol.
Mrs. Linton shouted from behind her, "Wow! How did it come to this!" She turned to scold her husband, "Unbelievable! He can't handle his alcohol, yet you insisted on making him drink!"
Mr. Linton, with his big belly, glanced at the silent Chris and shrugged, "Young people, they are strong! He's just blushing, that's all. Not drunk, right Chris?"
Chris smirked and nodded.
Daicy hurried to pour him some water. When she handed it to him, she could feel his abnormally high body temperature. His arm and wrist were unexpectedly hot.
As he reached for the water, his fingers accidentally brushed against the back of her hand.
She awkwardly slipped away her hand and asked him, "Are you uncomfortable?"
Mr. Linton chimed in again, "He's just blushing. Not drunk."
Chris remained silent.
As he drank the water, Adam's apple scrolled up and down rapidly.
Daicy sat beside him, able to hear the sound of his swallowing.
After finishing the glass of water, he placed it down and stood up, saying to Mr. and Mrs. Linton, "Thank you for your hospitality. Getting late, I should head back."
Linton both stood up in surprise. "It's so late. Just stay here and rest," they urged.
Chris glanced at Daicy who was sitting on the couch and shook his head. "I've already booked a hotel."
"But in your current state, I can't let you go," Mrs. Linton insisted.
"It's fine. I'll take a taxi," Chris replied.
"No way! It's not safe for you to go alone," Mr. Linton joined in.
Seeing the three people at a stalemate, Daicy stood up suddenly and proposed, "I'll take him to the hotel."
Chris glanced at her, and his Adam's apple rolled unconsciously.
Mrs. Linton still felt it was troublesome and asked again, "Can't you just stay here?"
"I didn't bring any wash-up things," Chris said calmly.
Realizing his persistence and his peculiar temperament, the two Linton didn't say anything further. They silently agreed to let Daicy take him away.
As they left, Mrs. Linton reminded Daicy, "Come back as soon as possible."
Daicy smiled and agreed.
