Chapter 5

Sofia's whole body stiffened when Julius' eyes suddenly opened. It was too late when he turned his gaze because their eyes met. "What are you staring at?" Julius asked. No words came out of her mouth, her heart beat faster due to nervousness. If she could sink to the ground now, she would have done it out of shame. She felt Julius stand up from his recliner. Her gaze was still on the floor. Because they were only some distance away from each other, she could smell the scents of alcohol coming from Julius' body. Why does he smell like alcohol? Is he drinking all night? She forced herself to look up and she didn't expect their eyes to meet again. Julius had no emotion while staring at her. Is she upset with him? "Ahm... S-Sir I-I've finished c-cleaning the back bedroom," she stammered. "Good. Go make yourself useful, make me some food." He said and started walking towards the kitchen. What the hell? Is he used to being rude all day? If she didn't have to do these things, she would have left long ago because of his trashy attitude. But in her case, she will choose to stay and ignore all of this because she has no choice. She hurriedly followed to the kitchen. Shee found Julius sitting at the kitchen table. His hands were on his face and his eyes were closed again as if he had fallen asleep. Maybe he still has a hangover. She ignored his presence and started cooking. She checked the fridge and saw eggs and bacon, so she thought of cooking it. She toasted some bread and started cooking the bacon and eggs. While waiting to cook the bacon, she briefly turned to where Julius was sitting. Her whole body stiffened when their eyes met again. Has he been looking at me? Shee simply averted her gaze and turned it to what she was doing. Gosh! Awkwardness enveloped the whole area. A few seconds passed and she finished cooking, she immediately transferred what she cooked to the plate and prepared it on the table where Julius was sitting. "Do you want coffee to go with this?" She asked after putting down what she cooked. "Yes, the black one." He answered with his manly voice. She just nodded and turned to make black coffee. "Is there anything you want me to do?" She asked as she placed the coffee she brewed in front of Julius. "Nothing. You can have your lunch." He was about to walk out of the kitchen when Julius suddenly spoke again. "Where are you going?" He asked. "I'll eat lunch..." She answered confused. "You can have whatever I have here." Man! Is she sick or what? Why did he suddenly be kind? Because of shocked, she could not speak. "Or if I ruined your appetite because of my face, you can take your lunch somewhere." He added and went back to his food. She took a deep breath before finally leaving. Julius's eyes were only focused on his food and waiting for Sofia for his answer. Fuck! What is happening to him? First, he let her stay in his house just because she begged. Second, he's already inviting her to eat with him. This is a big mistake. He felt Sofia leave the kitchen and he finally looked up. Maybe he didn't want to join him in eating so he just left without saying anything. What is he expecting? Maybe she's also one of the others who hates him. As soon as possible, he needs to get this woman out of his life because he is slowly changing himself because of her presence. A few seconds later he felt footsteps from a distance and if he wasn't mistaken these footsteps were heading towards the kitchen. He pretended to be busy with his food when he confirmed it was Sofia. He looked up as Sofia continued to walk towards where he was. He saw her holding a lunch box and pulled the chair across from him to sit. Wait... Is she going to eat lunch with me? That's strange... A deafening silence enveloped the whole area, he pretended that he didn't feel his presence, but deep inside his body was enveloped in a sense of dread because maybe a few years had passed and he had gotten used to always eating alone. But today... He's staring at the girl in front of him, no doubt joining him to eat. He stopped staring at Sofia's body when she suddenly spoke. "Do you want some!" She asked while pointing at her lunch. A baked macaroni and chicken leg. "No, I'm fine." He answered and continued with his meal. Sofia nodded and they both focused on their food again. The whole area became silent again until Sofia opened the conversation. "How long have you been living in this house? Seems like this house passed from generation to generation." It breaks the silence. He looked up and saw Sofia staring at him and waiting for his answer. "10 years," he answered sparingly. He remembered again how long he had been living alone in this house. A long time had passed without him realizing it. He noticed the surprise in Sofia's eyes. After all, he was fed up with staying in this house. He has memorized almost every corner of the house because of the time he has locked himself here. Only the trees and fresh air can calm him down every day. He doesn't want to go out again and socialize with other people, he is still afraid and hesitating about the possible reaction of other people because of his likeness. He doesn't want to be hurt anymore because of other people insulting him every time they see his face. He hates his face, he wants to ignore other's opinions and just live like a normal person but that is impossible because every time he receives insults from other people he just wants to lock himself up and hide from everyone around him. He came back to reality when Sofia asked again. "You lived here for 10 years? As in you don't leave the house? How can you not be bored? Why don't you want to socialize with other people?" This is a continuous question. He hates any questions about his life, when someone asks about his life he immediately gets angry, but in the current situation it is not anger in his heart, but shame. "I just really want to be alone," he replied coldly. You can see the disappointment on Sofia's face because of this answer. Julius moved his chair backwards and stood up, he finished eating. He didn't want to hear any more questions from Sofia so he decided to just leave it so he could avoid the questions. He was about to leave the kitchen when he was suddenly stopped by a question. "I'm done cleaning the back bedroom, do you have anything else to clean?" Sofia asked. "Just wash the dishes then you can leave." He walked out of the kitchen and went to his recliner to sleep again. He feels dizzy, maybe it's still the effect of the alcohol he drank last night.
