Chapter Seven

1202 Words
She’s waking up.” I hear loud whispers as I start trying to open my eyes. “Don’t crowd her.” I hear another say. “I’ll go get a Doctor.” I pin that voice to Amy. “Do you think she can hear us?” Hannah asks. “She wasn’t in a coma, Han.” Caroline says, and I could hear the eye roll in her voice. “Jeez, will you all shut up.” I say, finding my voice. Everyone stops talking, but I hear Todd chuckle, “Yeah, she’s definitely awake.” He says. I try to sit up, but I feel hands quickly grab hold of me to keep me down. “You need rest.” Comes that familiar, low, husky voice I’ve started to become weak for. I lay back and adjust my eyes to the light within the room I’m in. Scanning around briefly, I quickly realise I’m in a hospital room, and everyone is standing around, crowding me, watching. “What are you all staring at?” I demand. “We’re just making sure you’re okay Amelia, you hit your head pretty hard.” Hannah says. “It would've been twice if Mr Sinclair hadn't caught you when you fainted.” Caroline added. I look down, feeling embarrassed. Talk about damsel in distress. “How are you feeling?” That voice beside me asks. I turn to look at him, bracing myself for the impact I know he’ll have on me again. I catch his eye and he looks into mine, but before I have a chance to even look at him properly, a Doctor walks in interrupting our contact. “How is the patient?” She asks. She’s tall, thin, blonde, and beautiful. Utterly flawless. “I feel fine. Can I go home now?” I ask her. The woman chuckles and then picks up the clipboard from the end of the bed. “It’s a little crowded in here…” She hints to everyone, and then narrows her eyes when no one seems to move. Then just like that, Todd, Amy and Hannah rush out, leaving Caroline and Mr Sinclair in the room with us. “Doctor Sinclair, thank you so much for seeing her so quickly.” Caroline says. Sinclair? Are they… married? I didn’t know he was married. I feel my heart break a little. And I can’t understand why when I don’t even know him. I’ve met the man twice, and suddenly he’s got this unbreakable hold on me that I can’t seem to shake. Now I find out he’s married. Caroline never mentioned that. Why wouldn’t she tell me? I give him a quick glance and he just looks at me, not saying a word. “Miss Logan,” the Doctor says, and I follow her voice to the other side of me, where she’s holding a little light in her hand, “look this way for me.” I look into the light as she checks my pupils. “I really do feel fine.” I say. “No sign of concussion. How many drinks have you had tonight?” She asks. “Um,” I try to think back, “maybe 3.” “Four.” Mr Sinclair corrects me. And how the hell does he know? “Okay,” the Doctor says, “You more than likely passed out because of the alcohol consumption, and the bump to the head, but you don’t have a concussion. I will need to keep you for a little longer so I can do some obs, then you can leave.” She smiles, then walks out of the room. “Ugh, I literally just want to go home to bed.” I moan. “You can leave once you’ve had your observations done.” Mr Sinclair says. He’s being so blunt and demanding. It’s starting to get on my nerves. “And who made you the boss?” I say. “Well, since you can’t seem to handle your drink, and you get yourself into bar fights, then end up in the hospital, I think it makes sense that I call the shots.” He says nonchalantly. I scoff at him, completely bewildered by his arrogance. “You are so full of yourself.” I fold my arms across my chest and turn away from him, pouting. Caroline is standing there watching us with astonishment, like she can’t quite believe what’s going on in front of her. To be honest I can’t actually believe it myself. This guy hardly knows me and yet he seems to think he has some sort of authority over me. It’s infuriating! I mean why is he even here? “Why are you even here Mr Sinclair?” I blurt out, not thinking. One of the many traits my friends love and hate about me. “Sebastian.” He says, correcting me, “I’m not an old man.” I scoff again. He’s certainly older than all of us. But that doesn’t give him any right to treat me like a child. “Do you want me to leave?” He asks. I ponder the question for a moment. Do I? I’m sure his wife isn’t happy he’s brought in a stray from the streets. Maybe he should leave. “Yes I do.” I say not looking him in the eye. “Okay.” He says, then sits back in his chair. “What are you doing?” I ask. I can tell he’s being an ass on purpose. “I asked if you wanted me to leave, that didn’t mean I was actually going to.” He says with a smirk. “You know what? You are the most arrogant, self centred, piece of sh…” “Amelia!” I’m cut off by Caroline, her eyes wide with shock. Sebastian is just sitting there with a smug look on his face, enjoying himself a little too much. “He’s a wind up Caroline. I don’t know how you work for him. He’s impossible!” I snap. “Just drop it Amelia. He’s been kind enough to bring you in and get you checked over, AND stay in with you. Don’t be so ungrateful.” I roll my eyes at her, frustrated that she's defending him and not me. “Just accept his help Amelia, you don’t have to be so independent all the time.” She leaves the room before giving me the chance to defend myself. What is her issue? I here with my arms and legs crossed, pretty peeved off. “I’ll go see where my Mother has got to.” Sebastian says as he stands from the chair. “Your Mother?” I say. “Yes, your Doctor.” Doctor Sinclair is his Mother? I feel like an i***t. He leaves the room, and I’m finally on my own with some peace and quiet. Tonight has been far too much. I’m so tired, and hungry, and I am desperate for a shower. My eyes start to fill with tears, I feel so overwhelmed. I just want to go home. Then the idea hits me; just get up and leave.
