Chapter Five

1369 Words
After waiting over an hour in the cold to get into the club, we finally got to the front of the line. The bouncer on the door looked us up and down and made a hand gesture to signify we needed to show him our ID's. I opened my bag and went to grab my drivers licence but couldn't see it in there, “Oh s**t,” I said, “I haven't got my ID!” I rummaged through my bag frantically not locating my ID, and silently cursing under my breath. “Are you sure it isn't in there?!” Caroline asked desperately. “I thought I threw it in here just before we left!” I said in urgency. “Let's empty your bag out.” Hannah said as she grabbed my purse and emptied the entire contents onto the pavement in front of us. “Look ladies, if you don't all have your ID you can't come in.” The big bold guy said with a grunt. “She's got it!” Hannah and Caroline said in unison. I spread everything across the pavement but there was no sign of it. I've definitely left it at home. I mentally scold myself for not double checking I had it before we left. “Well s**t,” Hannah said as she stood up, “there goes our night out.” “I'm so sorry guys!” I say as I chuck everything back into my bag. “Step aside please ladies.” The bold guy says. “Are you sure there's no way of letting us in? We've got our ID's, we're all the same age.” Caroline tries to persuade him but he just looks at her. “Like I said, if you don't all have your ID's, you can't…” The bold guy stops mid sentence and puts his fingers to his ear and turns away, then proceeds to say quietly, “Boss?” Pause. “Are you sure?” Pause. “Yes boss.” He turns back towards us and steps to the side, “In you go ladies.” “What?” We all look at each other, confused. Why was he adamant we weren't allowed in, and now all of a sudden we are? “You can go in, ladies.” He says, without looking at us. We look at each other again but make our way slowly inside, still confused but happy that our night isn't going to go to waste. “That was really weird.” Caroline said as she led the way through the crowd into the bar. “I'll say! But at least we're in!” Hannah says excitedly. “I'll get the first round!” I shout a little as the music and crowd gets louder the closer we get to the bar and dance floor. The girls cheer and then find their way to an empty table whilst I make my way over to the bar to order our first lot of drinks. I only stand there waiting for a couple of seconds when a tall, slim guy with a goatee and moustache comes over to me and asks for my drinks order. I find it a little weird considering there are loads of people before me waiting to have their orders taken, but brush it off and shout out my order to him anyway. He sets about grabbing three gin glasses, a little bit of ice, and a bottle of sapphire gin. He pours the lemonade and fills them to the top, then adds a strawberry to each glass. Making quick work of it, he brings the glasses over to me and walks off without asking for payment. I watch him go to someone else and ask for their order. I stood there, still totally confused about the situation and waited until I could grab his attention. I stand there for a couple of minutes until he finally looks at me and shouts, “on the house!” I narrow my eyebrows at him, and he shrugs his shoulders. This is so weird. What the hell is going on? I grab the three glasses of gin and make my way over to the table that Hannah and Caroline are standing at, talking and dancing where they stand. I place the glasses on the table and look at them. “That was quick!” Caroline says, then notices my face, “What's wrong?” “We just got these drinks for free.” I explained. “Ooooh, who's the secret admirer?” Hannah laughs looking around to see if she spots anyone looking in our direction. “I have no idea, but I got served straight away too. Then he just said, ‘on the house.’” I shrug my shoulders at them. “Well never mind, free drinks! Let's toast!” Hannah says, her excitement becoming louder and more apparent. “To Hannah,” Caroline lifts her glass, “And that anonymous buyer!” I added, raising my glass as well. The three of us clink our glasses together and take a long gulp of our gin and lemonade. “Honestly I’m still shocked! Mr anonymous swooped in at the last minute and saved the day.” Hannah explains, a smile never leaving her face. “You must’ve really sold it Han!” I said, tilting my glass to her. “All that hard work has definitely paid off.” Caroline adds. Hannah beams another smile, pleased with her accomplishments. And I can’t help but beam with her, she has worked so hard with this house. “Thank you guys.” Hannah says, then takes another sip of her drink, eyes closed, relishing the taste. “I definitely needed this!” I yell over the music. “You were only out last night Amelia!” Caroline reminds me of the major hangover I had this morning from the last night when I went out with some work friends. Thankfully I got over that hangover quickly so I was able to come out again tonight. “Speaking of which,” Hannah says as she stands on her tiptoes to see over the crowd of people, “Where's Todd and Amy?” Todd and Amy are my friends from work. We all started at Story Events at the same time and instantly hit it off, then I introduced them to Caroline and Hannah not long after, and we've all gone on countless nights out together ever since. And although Todd and Amy are totally different to the three of us, we all get on so well and have the best nights out. “I haven't actually heard from them today. Maybe they were too hungover.” I laughed as I took another sip of my drink. Just then I hear Amy’s high pitched squeal from behind me. “Hey gang!” She shouts loudly in my ear trying to be louder than the music. Amy is a sweet girl, but very hyper, over the top, and loud. She’s fun on a night out, but first thing in the morning is definitely difficult to deal with. “Well hello beautiful besties! Don’t we all look absolutely smashing this evening”, in chimes Todd being his usual sweet, gay self. Being around him you can’t help but mirror the pure happiness that radiates off of him. One by one, we all greet each other with cheek kisses and hello’s. Todd makes his way to me last, a huge smile on his face, “Well hello darling,” he says, kissing my cheek hard, “How the devil are you?” I roll my eyes at him with a grin, “I’m fine Toddykins,” a nickname I often call him that he hates but secretly loves, “how are you?” I asked. “Oh darling, I’m splendid, as always,” he puts his arm around my neck and smells my hair. If no one knew him, you’d think he was my boyfriend. Just then, as I look up, chuckling, I catch the eye of a dark stranger, staring at me with a look of thunder. What on earth?
