Chapter 16

About one year has passed since the triplets have succeeded in gaining their revenge. About one year has passed since Reiji has finally accepted Ema as a part of their family. Back then, it had taken him some time to actually warm up to the little girl but now he is fairly comfortable with the little darling, more so than he is willing to admit. “Daddy, what’s that?” A little girl asks her father as he stands at his desk preforming complicated equations and creating the most complex solutions. The little girl could be seen having golden blonde locks that cascade past her shoulders in two thick braids, wearing a sky blue dress to match her eyes with a white collar and blue a blue ribbon tied around her neck. Strapped to her back is her favorite stuffed companion Sir Bunny who has been given straps so that the girl could carry him with her at all times. The sweet child stares in wonder at what her father could be doing that is so important to him. “It’s called a beaker, Ema.” Reiji answers blandly not sparing a glance to the sun blonde toddler at his side. Ema holds on to his pant leg only to look down, dejected at her adoptive father’s lack of attention. Reiji notices this and sighs. He really needs to learn to not follow in his mother’s footsteps. After readjusting his glasses, Reiji goes on bended knee to show the little girl the empty glass beaker. “A beaker is an instrument most often used in chemistry, it helps to hold and measure the liquid substances I study.” He holds the glass out for Ema to hold. She grabs on to the beaker and holds the opening to her face to look through. “I see you, Daddy!” She exclaims with childish excitement. Reiji only stares lovingly at the sky blue hues that are crystal clear through the glass and offers a deep chuckle of amusement at his daughter’s childish antics. “Alright, let me see that. Go find your mother, and we’ll get ready to celebrate your birthday.” The girl looks up at her father, eyes beaming with happiness, “Will there be cake? And candy? And games?” She asks the older male. Reiji chuckles again as he rises to his feet. “Yes, my daughter, but you need to take a bath and get dressed. I’m sure Laito bought you the most beautiful dress, you’re turning two today after all. Now run along.” He instructs the little girl. “Yes, Daddy!” With that, Ema runs from Reiji’s study down to her mother’s room. From time to time she does get lost, but she’s two now, she’s a big girl! And big girls don’t get lost anymore. She slows her run to a jog and finally to a walk. On her way she stops by the family game room and takes a peek inside. Playing a round of darts is three of her other co-parents. The girl giggle slightly, thinking she could pull a prank on them, not knowing they were already well aware of her presence. However, what’s the harm of playing along? After all, she is a princess. Their little princess. The little girl quietly tiptoes in to the room right behind Ayato as he pretends to take a shot. As soon as he draws his hand back, Ema seizes the chance to jump onto her father only reaching to thigh with a loud “boo!”. Ayato quickly feigns his surprise and snatched the girl to bring her in for a hug. “I got you Daddy!” “You sure did, kid. What are you up to?” Ayato asks his rambunctious little scamp. The girl answers with a bright smile on her face, “I’m going to see Mommy!” “Hmm? Are you going to get ready for your birthday party today, Ema?” Laito hums with a proud smile on his lips. Ema nods his way, “Mhm! Daddy Reiji says you got me a pretty dress! Did you Daddy?” The toddler asks as she reaches for her fedora-wearing father. “Yes I did, but you’ll have to wait and see.” Laito tells the small child as he picks her up to toss her into the air as he did only a year or so ago, when she was much smaller and chubbier, and could only babble and gurgle at the sight of him. Time flies, they say. But not as fast as it does for an immortal vampire as it would for a human girl such as Ema. The young princess of the Sakamaki household squeals in delight at her father’s playfulness. Only a moment passes before Kanato speaks up, “Ema, where is Sir Bunny?” The currently eighteen-year old asks his daughter while squeezing his own stuffed companion. As Laito places the girl back on to her feet, she smiles to her father unfazed by the hollow look in his eyes and turns around to show that the gray bunny has never left her side. “He’s here! I’m giving him a piggyback ride!” She beams as she turns back to her violet-haired father. She knew that some people found her fathers to be very scary but she doesn’t think so, not at all! Her daddies are the nicest daddies around and she counts herself lucky to have so many. Speaking of her multiple fathers she looks to the sofa at the end of the room, expecting to see her laziest father in the large house. “Where’s Daddy Shuu?” She asks so that she could hopefully scare him too. “Shuu went to meet with someone so he’s not home.” Laito informs his two year old daughter. At the news Ema can’t help but pout. “Who is Daddy meeting?” She asks her follow-up question. The triplets glance at each other before Ayato simply clicks his tongue in distaste. “He went to go talk to Him, your grandfather I guess.” He trails off in his answer as he crosses his arms. Grandfather? This is the first she’s heard of having a grandfather. “Can I meet my grandfather?” She asks inquisitively. “No.” Is the consecutive answer. Ema doesn’t seem to understand, but if her daddies say no then it means no. The little girl simply shrugs it off before continuing her journey down the corridor to her mother’s room. On her way she peeks into another room, a room that used to be trashed with broken glass and shattered remains of furniture scattered about on the floor. Now that room is significantly better with nothing littering the floor. A shirt or jacket could be seen in the room on the floor at times, but all that is in there at the moment is a lone coffin with other bedroom furniture. Ema simply steps in and walks up to the wooden coffin. One, two, three knocks are given to signal the girl’s arrival. “Daddy Subaru? Wake up! It’s almost time for the party, you won’t get any cake if you don’t get up Mommy said!” Ema informs the snoozing ivory-headed vampire. The door to the coffin opens and two strong arms grab the little girl to drag her inside. The little blonde screams, but it’s in joy as her sides are attacked by the quick and nimble fingers of her youngest parent. She laughs and squirms in the small space trying to escape for the tickle monster that is Daddy Subaru. “D-Daddy! St-Stop! I can’t breathe!” The two-year-old giggles uncontrollably. Subaru chuckles and stops his attack to let the little girl rest as he sits up to set her back outside his resting place. “I’m up Ema, thank you for waking me. But you should be careful because the tickle monster might get you!” Subaru growls playfully, acting as if he’s about to pounce and attack her weak points once more. At this Ema jumps and squeals as she runs out the room. Subaru could only chuckle as he hears the little girl stumble in the hall. He then removes himself from the coffin to proceed to prepare himself for his daughter’s two-year-old birthday party. Meanwhile, Ema skips down to her final destination and stops in front of her mother’s door. She pushes open the large wooden door to see a young woman with platinum blonde locks running down past her shoulders. She’s currently brushing the long tresses, humming a gentle tune that Ema has heard her violet haired father sing from time to time. Yui, now seventeen, begins to see the door push open slightly and watches through the mirror of her vanity as her two-year-old daughter steps inside. “Hey there little one.” Yui greets her daughter as she sets down her brush. The little darling runs up to her mother to give her a hug as best as she could as the young woman remained seated at the vanity. “Hi Mommy!” “How was greeting Daddy this evening?” “Good!” The little girl beams. After answering, she climbs into her mother’s lap and places Bunny in her own lap as well. Yui could only giggle at her daughter’s eagerness while she equips herself with the brush once more and starts undoing the little girl’s braids to brush through them. Ema’s hair falls in soft, loose curls that bounce as the bristles of the styling tool brushes through them repeatedly. The motion relaxes the energetic toddler considerably as she busies herself by playing and whispering to her best friend. “Are you ready for your party, Ema?” “Mhm! I’m becoming a big girl, right, Mommy?” Yui laughs, “Yes you are, and I don’t think I’m ready for you to grow up anymore.” The two females giggle and laugh as they get ready for the birthday party that is waiting for them down stairs. ... “I love it!” Ema exclaims in pure happiness. The balloons, streamers, the chandelier, and the cake! The cake was huge! At least by Ema’s standard. It was a large cake to feed everyone, and the staff if they were even allowed, but everyone knows that the majority of the cake is going to be eaten by Kanato and the birthday girl herself. Each parent has a birthday party hat on their head, and Teddy and Bunny sat together with the festive cones on their heads as well. Yui places the candles on the cake and helps Ema on to the dining room chair. The teens stare as the little girl bounces in her seat, all with smiles on their faces as they beefing to sing to their adoptive daughter and watch as she makes a wish and blows out her candles. “What did you wish for Ema?” Yui asks. To this Ema shakes her head, “If I tell you it won’t come true.” “Oh, you’re right, I’m so silly.” Yui laughs. Suddenly footsteps could be heard entering the dining room, and the Sakamakis turn to face the entrance but relax when they see who steps in through the door. It’s Shuu strolling in as if he’d woken from his regularly scheduled naps. Though dressed nicely, his mannerisms stay intact except for the tension that racks his body stiff. It’s only when Ema breaks the silence that it leaves and the atmosphere around the oldest vampiric son returns to its normal state. “Daddy!” She yells, and runs into the arms of the twenty-one-year-old adult. It is the end of the year and there was much for the Sakamakis to celebrate and enjoy. However, on her birthday this winter, Ema wished for one thing and she’s overjoyed that it came true. “Hey Em, did I miss you making your birthday wish? I’m sorry I came late.” Shuu apologizes after placing the girl down and resting his large palm on the crown of her head. Ema quickly shakes her head in the negative. “It’s okay, Daddy! You were my wish!” She exclaims with the brightest and most innocent smile, spreading her rosy cheeks to meet her glistening blue eyes. Shuu stalls after feeling a rush of love, adoration, and protectiveness consume him all at once. This is the child that he raises with the members of his family, this is his daughter. He’ll be damned if he lets Karl Heinz or anyone take her away from them. “Oh, me?” He asks with a small smile taking shape on his lips. “Mhm! I wished that you would come home and play with me and help me open my presence!” “You mean “presents”, Ema. Watch your pronunciation, young lady.” Reiji comments offhandedly from his place in the dining room as he cuts the cake for those who wants a slice. “Mhm! Presents!” Ema corrects herself but joyously nonetheless. She grabs hold of Shuu’s wrist and pulls him over to the large table covered in food, cake, party favors and gifts for the young lady of the house. The evening carried on in bright spirits during the wonderful celebration as all of the family enjoyed each other’s company, and basked in the beautiful sight that is Ema’s happiness. Yes, everything is just how it should be.
