She’d fallen asleep. God knew how, but somehow between the panic and crushing fear that had gripped her after the guy in the cage opposite had been killed, she’d closed her eyes and slipped into sleep. Probably her body taking over, exhaustion forcing her into slumber or her mind shutting down to prevent her having a complete psychotic break. Whichever, she only realized what had happened when a sound outside her cage brought her out of sleep with a jerk. Yanking her head up, she looked around. Nothing had changed, and the hope that this was all a bad dream died a swift death. She squinted as she looked up at the overhead lights that bore down on the aisle between the cages, creating a line of light almost blinding in its intensity.
