After Damian left the elders' pack, he drove back to his pack. On his way back to his pack, he had so many thoughts on his mind. After what the elder said, he realized he was heading into the battlefield without a sharpened knife or even a stick. If the elder hadn't mentioned that he might need help with taking the midnight wolf later on he would have been engrossed and forgot to actually make plans.
He simply knew he wanted Elsa and her powers, or more specifically, her powers. That was exactly what he wanted. It was something he had wanted for the longest time, but he didn't know how to get it. But now he could have all the powers he wanted, and the source was right in front of him, but he couldn't have it. It was almost impossible to have her with Elijah
