  Before he reached the door, I ran to him and wrapped my arms around his waist from behind. "Vito, please. I'm sorry," I whispered, my voice shaking, tears already sliding down my cheeks as I sniffed hard, trying to breathe through the fear.   In that moment, memories rushed in like a slap to the face.
