Chapter Thirty
Searon led his party east from Sudegam to spy on the Ikchani camp near the Shayli Mountains. They were more careful as they approached them than the last time, since they knew the Ikchani were there. When they arrived, the camp was abandoned.
“Where did they all go?” Xython asked.
“They left,” Sh’on said.
Searon took a deep breath. “We lingered too long. They’re already on their way south.”
They walked further into the camp. Searon studied the ground, brushing his hands over thin tracks.
“They headed south,” Searon said. “We need to hurry.”
“Are we going to chase them?” Andron asked.
“No. There are too many of them. An attack from behind would be suicide. They have way too many. However, we have something that they don’t have.”
“What’s that?” Andron asked.
