Chapter Thirty-Two Arria stood erect, her hands cupped behind her back as she awaited the demonstration. The Ikchani had arranged wooden barrels on the mountain range for the catapult and ballista to attack. Each machine was built vastly different. The catapult used rope to bring its level down so a large rock could be placed in its bucket. Then they would release the rope and it would spring the bucket upward, launching the rock into the air. The ballista, on the other hand, used rope to be pulled backward. A large spear was positioned at its center, resembling a massive crossbow.
