Chapter Three: The Moon Goddess’s Daughter Luna’s heart pounded as the creature’s words echoed through the forest. “Moon Goddess’s daughter?” she repeated. “What does that mean?” Adrian stepped closer, shielding her from the monster. Silver flames danced across his hands, casting strange shadows over his face. “It means you’re in greater danger than you realize,” he said. The creature laughed, its voice scraping against the trees. “She belongs to us. Her blood will awaken the ancient gate.” Luna shook her head. “I don’t understand!” “You don’t need to,” Adrian replied. “You only need to trust me.” “Trust you?” Her anger burned hotter than her fear. “You lied to me from the beginning!” The creature suddenly lunged. Adrian released a wave of silver fire. The blast struck its chest, sending it crashing into a tree. Black smoke rose from its scales, but the monster slowly stood again. “It cannot be killed by ordinary power,” Adrian muttered. “Then what can stop it?” Adrian looked at Luna. “Your blood.” Before she could respond, the creature charged once more. Luna felt a burning sensation spread through her veins. Her wolf howled inside her mind, and a pale blue light erupted from her palms. The creature screamed as the light struck it. Cracks spread across its body. With one final roar, it dissolved into ash. Silence returned to the forest. Luna stared at her glowing hands. Adrian approached carefully. “Now you know why I kept you away.” “Who am I?” she whispered. He lowered his gaze. “You are the last descendant of the Moon Goddess—and the key to ending the war between wolves and shadows.”
