Mia stood at the entrance of Luxe Atelier, her heart racing as she took in the sleek, modern façade. It was her first day as a personal assistant.
This was a chance to step into a world she had only glimpsed from afar. With a deep breath, she smoothed down her blouse and pushed open the glass door.
The interior was a blend of elegance and creativity, filled with sunlight streaming through floor-to-ceiling windows. The faint scent of fresh coffee drifted through the air, blending with the soft hum of chatter and the rustle of fabrics. She found herself surrounded by luxury she could hardly comprehend.
"Good morning! You must be Mia". A cheerful voice called out, snapping her from her thoughts. She turned to see a woman in her forties with a kind smile, her short brown hair tucked neatly behind her ears.
This was Emma Foster, her new boss and the owner of Luxe Atelier.
"Yes, that's me. It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Foster". Mia said, forcing her voice to sound calm, though her heart was pounding.
"Please call me Emma. I am so glad you're here. Let me show you around and then we'll get you settled in".
Mia followed Emma through the bright spacious office, nodding as her boss introduced her to the team and pointed out the different departments.
Every now and then, Mia's gaze would drift to the clothing racks filled with dresses, jackets, and skirts she'd only seen in magazines.
As they walked, her mind wandered, flickering back to the circumstances that had brought her here.
Her only friend, Logan, had found this job for her, insisting that it was time Mia took a step forward. After all the sacrifices she'd made, it was only fair that she'd get a chance to build something for herself.
Five years ago, she'd been just a girl making desperate choices to save her brother who had been in the hospital for almost six months and needed surgery, an expense she couldn't afford. She yearned for the presence of her parents, everything would have been sorted out if they were here, but they were gone.
If only they didn't go to that damned wedding.
But now, it was just her and her brother, she couldn't lose him too, he was her only family.
She had to turn to the only and fastest option she got. It had been one night-a night with a not so strange man. She knew him, he was always on the news.
She never saw him again.
It had haunted her, but it had also saved her brother's life. The choice left her with a beautiful, unexpected gift-her daughter, Diva
She was gifted another family, a precious one.
She still remembered the doctor's voice the day her twins had been born.
'Congratulations, you have a healthy little girl'.
The joy she'd felt had been bittersweet; her son hadn't survived. She felt a huge hole in her heart.
"Are you all right, Mia?". Emma's voice cut through her thoughts, bringing her back to the present.
Mia blinked, her cheeks flushing. "Yes of course, I'm sorry, just...a bit overwhelmed".
"I know it's a lot to take in, but you'll get used to it. I can already tell you'll do wonderfully here". Emma smiled.
They reached her desk, a small space near Emma's office, filled with sunlight. A single framed picture of Diva, her curly-haired daughter, smiled back at her from her bag. Mia set it on her desk.
She smiled.
"Thank you Emma. I promise I won't let you down". She said softly, more to herself than her boss.
As Emma left her to settle in, Mia took a deep breath, allowing herself to appreciate this new beginning.
A chance to give her daughter and her brother a better life.
A life they deserve.
