What both magnified his annoyance, and kept it in check, was the thought that the shot might push the police into storming the house; he realised he had to regain control of the situation before that could happen. Anger flooded his system with adrenaline, giving him the strength to turn them both round and throw Stone against the wall, winding him. He then twisted the shotgun so he could bury the butt of the weapon into Stone’s stomach, doubling him up.
