Feeling a gentle hand on his shoulder, he turned to find Ryan watching him with concern widening her sage-colored eyes. He placed his hand over hers and smiled half-heartedly. She was fully dressed, but her hair was mussed like she’d been lying down with him. Guilt assailed him as he recalled what she’d said in the truck on the way up to the cabin. “Are you all right?” she asked. “Not really,” he replied honestly. “I feel like the foundation of who I am has just… crumbled.” Ryan hopped off the bed and stood facing him. “Are you up to coming downstairs for a little bit?” He nodded, though all he wanted to do was go back to sleep despite the bad dreams that were sure to greet him as soon as he closed his eyes again.
