Was so bad that she didn't want to look at him again? It seemed he was good at hurting someone's self-esteem.
"I have no idea about him," Daisy didn't have the courage to explain how surprised she was.
"Well, David has more important work to do, so I personally will oversee this project in the future."
This could be considered a discouraging statement. What could she say?
"Very well then. I look forward to working with you, Mr. Blackwood."
Kingsley's long fingers held the glass he had just finished drinking from. He rubbed it gently with his fingers and smiled softly.
"Miss Knight, you need to show loyalty."
Daisy, who grew up under difficult circumstances, had learned to read such situations. She took the bottle of red wine gracefully and poured half a glass for Kingsley, raising it to welcome him,
"Mr. Blackwood, let me make a toast for you."
Kingsley tapped his glass gently. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw that Daisy finished her wine first. Then, slowly, he sipped the wine and was satisfied. When Daisy put down the wine glass, Kingsley poured some more.
"Thank you very much, Mr. Blackwood." She raised her eyes to look at him.
As she stared at him, she realized how much her daughter was growing up to resemble Kendrick. Now that he was in here, what would happen if he saw her?
He wondered whether to continue hiding her or give her daughter the cherished love she had longed for.
Was Daisy out of her mind? For a moment, she wanted to tell Kingsley about Doris. She turned her gaze away and poured herself a glass of red wine to calm her disturbed thoughts.
On the other hand, Kingsley noticed that something was bothering her.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” he asked.
“I’m fine,” she replied, taking a tissue to wipe the alcohol from the corner of her mouth.
“Excuse me for a moment, Mr. Blackwood. I need to use the restroom.”
She quickly got up and left the room. Kingsley watched her slim back as she departed, frowning slightly. He took a sip of wine from his glass, feeling an uneasy sensation for some reason.
Daisy entered the restroom and leaned against the wall of one of the stalls. She was lost in thought. After a while, the loud click of high heels approached, followed by a thud. Two women entered, chatting as they stood by the sinks.
“I’m so angry right now. Manager Don already arranged for me to sit next to Kingsley to attend to him if he needed anything, but Kingsley ended up sitting next to Daisy. He didn’t even look at me! How can I leave Daisy like this?”
“What can you do? I heard Mr. David was supposed to manage this project, but I didn’t expect Mr. Blackwood to sit close to Daisy. There must be something going on between them.”
“Daisy is just a schemer, pretending to be innocent. First, she seduced Mr. Nilesh to become the project manager, and then she went and climbed into Mr. Blackwood’s bed. It’s really pathetic. Mr. Nilesh is still hospitalized, and now he’s been betrayed.”
“ If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for not having the skill to seduce men properly.”
“Isn’t a woman who sleeps with many men called a prostitute? Who wants to be like that?”
“If you can’t calm down now!”
Daisy opened the door and exited the room with a broad smile on her face.
The women at the sinks, who had been gossiping and applying makeup, were struck with embarrassment. Holding a lipstick, the woman who had been gossiping began to tremble.
The air was thick with heavy silence, and no one dared to speak.
Daisy walked gracefully to the sink and washed her hands calmly. She took out her red lipstick and carefully applied it to her lips.
“You don’t care but want to show off in front of Mr Blackwood,” Daisy said, her eyes fixing on the shameful face of the woman.
It was as if she had been doused with cold water. “Don’t you know there’s no justice in this world? The winner is the one who has the right. If you fail to get what you want, shut your mouth and stop talking nonsense. Mr Blackwood won’t look at you twice if you keep speaking without thinking.”
After finishing her scolding of the foolish women, she turned and left them stunned. From then on, she was not willing to engage in petty quarrels but was no weakling to be trampled on.
As she was on her way back to the private room, Daisy was stopped by a voice calling from behind. “Isn’t this Miss Knight, the project manager?”
Daisy turned around and recognized the person. It was Steve Lambert, her former project manager who had turned 45 that year. He was still involved with the project and hadn’t signed off yet, so she didn’t want to anger him.
“Hello, Mr. Lambert.” She had to greet the troublesome man with a smile.
“I haven’t seen you in a long time. You look even more beautiful now,” Lambert said, his small eyes scanning Daisy from head to toe.
Such a lecherous gaze made Daisy cringe with disgust. “Mr. Lambert, I still have a client here. I must leave now.”
She wanted to get away as quickly as possible. She had only taken two steps when Lambert moved to block her path.
“Now, Miss Knight, don’t be in such a hurry. I’m also your client, remember? You can just accompany me for a few drinks right now…”
“How can a few drinks satisfy you, Mr. Lambert? Can’t we drink another time?” Daisy asked, taking two steps back to distance herself from him.
The smell of alcohol on Lambert made her feel nauseous. “I still haven't met your wife. We can have a meal together.”
“Is that so?” He laughed and said, “It turns out that your Sister-in-law is with me today. She also told me she wanted to see you. Why don’t we go meet her together?”
“That’s very fortunate!” Although Daisy appeared pleased, her heart was heavy.
If he were dining with his wife, he wouldn’t dare to invite her. She only said that to calm her nerves. How could she know what was on his mind? Nevertheless, she didn’t want to offend him, so she had to continue smiling.
This was very exhausting for her.
“Alright, Mr. Lambert, how about this? Let me finish up with the client here first before I come to accompany you and your sister-in-law. I can't just leave the client like that. It would make me look very strange,” Daisy said, trying to excuse herself and head to the private room.
Steve wouldn't be able to do anything there. But Mr. Lambert was a bold man. From the moment he saw her, he had no intention of letting her out of his sight.
“Don't worry about that. Come with me, and I'll have my assistant take care of your client. I'll resolve this issue. No one would dare mistreat you while I'm here!” he said boastfully, patting his chest twice.
At that moment, he stretched out his hand and grabbed Daisy by the waist. Her expression immediately changed.
Daisy wanted to break free from him, but she was trapped in his arms, so she was forced to lean against the wall.
“Your body smells nice, Miss Knight,” Lambert said, inhaling her scent intensely.
“Mr. Lambert, it would be awkward if your wife were to see us like this,” Daisy said nervously.
“Awkward? Even if I slept with you here right now, there’s nothing she could do. Why don’t you just follow me? Houses, cars, jewellery, money... It could all be yours,” Steve shamelessly revealed the dirty thoughts that had been brewing in his mind the whole time.
