The remnants of the mansion lay scattered before them, nothing more than a heap of rubble. The grand structure that had held so much darkness and suffering was now a pile of broken stone and dust. The sound of its collapse still echoed in Zane’s mind, but it was fading, slowly becoming a distant memory, just like the place itself. Leona stood beside him, her gaze fixed on the destruction. The moonlight bathed the land around them, casting an ethereal glow on the scene, and for the first time, the air felt lighter. The oppressive weight that had hung over them for so long was gone. Yet, despite the freedom, despite the fact that the mansion had been destroyed, Zane felt a hollow ache in his chest. They had won, yes, but there was no denying the cost. They were free, but not without scars.
