Chapter2

I finally got home, but my mind was still restless from everything that had happened earlier. I couldn’t stop wondering what I had gotten myself into. As I stepped inside, I saw my parents chatting affectionately with each other, just like always. Their marriage made me wish I had a boyfriend. I had never had one in my life. I was so close to confessing to my crush before I was transferred to this school.Sometimes i just hoped he wouldn’t find someone else before I was done here. “Jin,” my mom called, smiling the moment she noticed me. “How was your first day at school?” my dad added. “Fine,” I replied coldly. “Mom, I’m really tired. I won’t be coming out for dinner.” Without waiting for a response, I went to my room and shut the door, resting my head against it. Even if that guy’s threat meant nothing to me..... I was still a little scared. All I wanted was to go through school unnoticed. I sat down and decided to work on the assignment the art teacher had given us. Taking out my board, I began painting a sunflower. I wasn’t very good at painting, so I kept checking my phone for reference, trying to get it right. Just then, an unknown number called me. I hesitated for a second before answering. “Hello?” I said. “It’s me, Angela,” the voice replied. “How did you get my number?” I asked, surprised. “You wrote your name and number on the list, remember?” “Oh…” I went quiet. “Sorry I had to leave so quickly,” she continued. “I didn’t want anyone to see me with you. I’m such a coward.” She let out a frustrated sigh. “It’s fine,” I said. “No one bothered you, right?” she asked, her voice laced with concern. I took a deep breath and told her everything. She almost screamed. “What? The library?” she repeated, as if she hadn’t heard me the first time. “They call it a library, but it’s really a place of judgment. And if you walk in there and meet Jayden face-to-face…” She paused. “Your school life won’t be peaceful anymore.” “Who is Jayden?” I asked. She described him and every word matched the guy who had threatened me earlier. I swallowed hard. “I think I’ll call you back,” I said quickly, hanging up before she could respond. It can’t be that bad, I told myself. But somehow… I wasn’t so sure. ******** I got to school looking like I hadn’t slept in a week. I shouldn’t have interfered. If this Jayden was really as dangerous as Angela said, then I needed to stay out of his way. I had a secret of my own to protect, one that could destroy my entire modeling career if it ever got out. Clutching my painting inside a large brown envelope, I walked down the hallway. A sudden commotion broke out ahead, drawing everyone’s attention. Curious, I set my painting down at a corner and moved closer to take a look. When I realized it wasn’t anything serious, I returned to where I had left my things. Art was our first class that morning, so I headed straight to the studio. I spotted Angela just as she was about to enter and hurried toward her. “Hi,” I said weakly. She pulled me into a quick hug as we walked in together. We took our seats near the front, facing the board, while the teacher prepared to begin the lesson. But suddenly, the entire class went silent. Confused, I followed everyone’s gaze to the doorway. Jayden walked in with Caleb and the other guy that was with Caleb the other day. They strolled in like they owned the place. Jayden’s eyes scanned the room, as if searching for something or someone. Then they landed on me. A slow, wicked smirk curved his lips before he took his seat. “They shouldn’t be here unless they’re looking for something,” Angela whispered. “What do you mean?” I asked quietly. “This is a third-rank class called the privileged. It’s for scholarship students,” she explained. “Jayden is in first rank. His dad is the president.” “President of this country?” I asked, just to be sure. “Yes,” she replied without hesitation. My heart dropped. Soon, it was time to present our paintings. I carefully brought mine out, completely unaware of what was about to happen. Then the teacher’s voice rang sharply through the room. “Who did this?” she demanded, her face flushed with anger. She checked the name at the bottom of the board… then called mine. My heart nearly stopped. Was it really that bad? I wondered as I stood and walked toward her. “Can you explain the meaning of this?” she asked, holding up the painting. My breath caught. That… wasn’t my painting. On the board was something completely different, crude red paint forming a vulgar image of a naked body… with the teacher's face on it. My chest tightened. “I didn’t do this,” I said quickly. “Don’t play dumb with me, Min Jin,” she snapped. “Go straight to the principal’s office.” As I turned to leave, my eyes instinctively found Jayden. He smiled. That was all I needed to know, I knew he was the one who did it. At the principal’s office, the teacher explained everything without giving me a chance to speak. My hands were damp with sweat as they trembled at my sides. “It’s only your second day, and you’re already causing this much trouble,” the principal, Mr. Williams, said sternly. “I—” I tried to speak, but he cut me off. “I don’t need your explanation. You’ll be suspended for one week.” My chest tightened painfully. “How about you make it two weeks, sir?” Jayden’s voice came from behind me and to my shock, the principal nodded. “Two weeks, then.” Just like that. Jayden stepped forward and whispered something into the principal’s ear. After a brief nod, everyone began to leave the office until it was just me and him. The silence felt suffocating. He stepped closer. “How do you like my gift?” he asked, a smirk playing on his lips. I clenched my teeth, my anger barely contained.
