Chapter 4 THE CORPSE With a swift movement, Lieutenant Juin rips the blindfold from his eyes. “Mon Dieu!” he cries out. “Mon Dieu!” He grabs Teuns by the shoulders, and although Juin is not a large or strong man, it feels to Teuns as if his grip is breaking his shoulder blades. “Mon Dieu!” Juin cries out again. “No! They cannot take you, mon ami. They must not do this!” There is a haze before Teuns as he looks at the young officer. “The lot fell on me, mon Lieutenant,” he says softly, running his tongue over his dry lips.
