Grandfather to Kid

335 Words
Imagine this: Your grandfather is horribly ill and is on the brink of death. His illness will likely kill him within the next few days. You decide to visit him in the hospital, as there are now very limited opportunities. He tells you that he’s going to be fine, that he isn’t afraid of death in the least, and claims that he’ll be young again in just a few days. You’re probably thinking, “Yo dude, I love you and all, but you’ve gone off the deep end. There’s no way you can reverse aging. I’m sorry, but death is inevitable.” But your grandpa once again reassures you that he’ll be fine and healthy. Right before you leave, he goes into a sort of unresponsive, vegetative state. The doctors ask you to leave, as they’d like as much time and space as they can get in order to treat your grandfather. Rightfully upset, yet also respecting the doctors for what they’re attempting to do, you leave the room. A couple of days later, you revisit the hospital, expecting the worst. Instead of hearing the news of your late grandfather, you see a young boy on the hospital bed that was originally occupied by your grandpa. Clearly confused, you ask the boy who he is and where the last occupant went. The boy responds, “Ah, but it’s me, your old man! Just I’m not old now!” You almost say ‘okay boomer’, but you then realize your grandfather is now younger than you. Basically, all of humanity can be immortal. A species of jellyfish, named ‘immortal jellyfish’, are capable of rewinding aging effects by reverting to a more youthful form of themselves. However, they can only do this after a severe, life-threatening crisis occurs. And yes, they can still die due to external causes.
