Ayla's POV
I sat up on the couch I was offered.
With more than a thousand thoughts running through my small head, I wondered what my fate would be. Was I even supposed to be here?
What choice did I even have?
If there was someone to blame, it would be Caleb—he was none other than my stupid ex, who made up his mind to make my life miserable.
It all started one month ago.
No, two months ago when I noticed changes in him. The way we talked, laughed, and even spent time became different from the usual.
He was a man who should be my future husband, or so I thought, and I made up my mind to fix things by finding out what the issue was.
For all that I knew, we had been together for three good years, and we were heading to the fourth.
I couldn't lose him.
My stupid self thought so.
I thought about ways and made up my mind to find out on my own, outside the house and even in the house. The apartment was mine, after all, and I did almost everything he should do as a man.
Including paying the bills.
“Ma'am?” Someone disrupted my thoughts.
When I looked up, there was a maid.
She had a tray in her hand—and in the tray was a bottle of water, with a glass. I needed that. “You asked for water.” She dropped it on the table and asked. “Is there something else you need?”
“No—no, thank you.”
“Alright—” she flashed a smile and announced. “The Alpha will join you in a moment.”
The words that came from her mouth scared me.
One part of me wished I didn't get to see him, another part wished he would make it snappy.
I have heard enough about him.
Alpha Lukas, the most dangerous Alpha. Words have it that he was the strongest Alpha in the whole of the city. “Thank you.” I simply muttered while the woman walked away, and again, I faced my thoughts, concentrating on thinking about how useless my life had suddenly become.
Because of a man.
A man I thought would love me forever.
How could I have known he was adding substance to my meals? And cheating on me! With a woman who wasn't even up to what I was.
What did men even want?!
He was the cause of everything.
My misfortune.
Caleb was the reason the hospital injected the Alpha King's semen in me, all because I was there to check how much damage the substance caused.
Someone coughed.
Footsteps sounded. I looked up at him.
Despite being a werewolf, but from another pack, it was the first time I would see him.
Alpha Lukas, the strongest Alpha in the whole kingdom of werewolves. His height was a lot, compared to a woman like me who was average. For a moment, I was lost in his handsome face.
Good thing he wasn't ugly, my hands went to my stomach and I let go the next moment.
“My Lord.”
Instead of a word, or maybe a greeting, he didn't speak. He simply moped at me as though he had seen a ghost, or maybe a kid with so much dirt.
“Good day to you, too.”
He resumed his movement. I stopped breathing.
Shame was all I could feel. How did I even get here? What was I supposed to say now? And why did the doctor who caused all these not stay with me?!
Was that all he could say?
My mouth was shut. It wasn't even in my place to start a conversation with the Alpha.
A short man in uniform walked into the space.
“Doctor Matthew dropped her with us. He left to attend to a patient, so he says. According to him, you understand the reason she's here.”
“Go.” He was seated now, his hand raised.
It was the both of us now, alone.
Not entirely as some men watched after us, standing behind him, in corners of the room while all I did was watch. “My Lord.” I opened my mouth but only these words came out. “I don't know what to say, but I am the woman with your child.”
“The woman with my child.” His deep voice sounded again. “I can see that, or didn't you hear my man pass the message a while ago?”
Rude.
He was rude too.
Well, what did I expect from a man with a scar on the right side of his face?
Another round of silence existed in the room.
I took my time to scan the space.
Right from the gate, there were artworks and pieces I admired. In the plush living room, there existed many others. At least, I was here and that was all that mattered. One part of me didn't care if the wicked Alpha had a thing to say or not.
Suddenly, his thick voice reverberated.
“What’s your name?”
I looked up, already shaken. “Ayla. Ayla Fredrick.”
“Ayla Fredrick. Where from?”
“I'm a member of The Crescent Howl Pack.”
He chuckled. “A home for weak people.”
“What?” I glared at him.
“I don't understand what you mean, My lord.”
“You don't have to understand what I mean, Lady. It's unfortunate enough that we would be together under the same roof for a long time.”
“Wh—what do you mean?”
“I'm sure Matthew told you to not interrupt me when I speak. It should be one of the things you should know if we're going to work together.”
Why would he refer to my HomePack as weak?
I had many questions to ask.
But I was going to wait.
The Alpha shouldn't be interrupted, after all.
“I was told of your position as a weak Omega Wolf. I'm left to wonder how bad it is for my child.”
Wow! He was also disrespectful.
Why did I expect more?
“Weakness is something I cannot deal with, Ayla. I have no understanding of why the moon goddess would choose to punish me this way.”
“I did not wish to be pregnant either. Even if I wanted a child, it wasn't going to be for a man who has no respect for women, weak women.”
He glanced at me.
I glanced back. “I am here to know what the fate of the unlucky child in my stomach would be. With all due respect, Alpha Lukas, I have not come to hear you talk about your hate for weakness. And we don't have to be under the same roof, after today.”
He still moped at me. I didn't care.
The child was my concern. No, I was my own concern. I needed to know what my life would become now that I had been so unfortunate.
I used to have a life. A dream.
I used to have a job. Now what? Caleb did it.
What annoyed me more than anything was the silence. I no longer wanted it. The urge to stand up and scream became overwhelming.
How dare he talk to me in that way?
Like I was a piece of trash. I had had enough in the last month and even two months ago.
Adding to it was the least of many things I wanted. My back relaxed on the couch, I sat up the next time, more than ready to speak, and maybe walk out on him. Who did he think he was?
Before I could open my mouth to speak, Alpha Lukas announced. “We should sign a contract.”
I looked at him now.
He continued. “I want the child.”
