Ayla POV
Talk about tension…
The dining table was filled with it. I was even cautious about the way I breathe and it wasn't because of the baby or anything but due to the peering eyes I could feel on my skin.
If they had lasers, I would be dead by now…
I slowly ate the meal in front of me; I could feel something else. Looking up, I locked eyes with the Luna.
I swore that my soul almost jumped out of my body, her eyes were fixed on me like she had seen her next prey.
“So, Ayla.”
She spoke. I didnt know what was going to come next but I was sure that it wasn't an 'I am delighted to see you pack from her.’
“Yes, my Luna,” I answered, my head still bowed down.
“What pack do you originate from?” I could still feel her eyes on me, and it wasn't going off any time soon.
“The Crescent Howl Pack…” I muttered quietly, I didn't want anything else trying to take my head.
The next thing I heard was the whispers of curses and sighs; there was nothing else I would have expected.
“Crescent Howl?” She looked at me with a forced, surprised look on her face.
“My dear, I thought you would have hailed from a stronger pack….”
It sounded like pity, but instead, she was mocking me.
“Such a weak pack, are they even meant to be considered wolves?” She continued; it seemed to be giving her a thrill to taunt me that way.
“I heard some of them are like humans, so weak their wolves refuse to show.”
Sierra added, I turned to look at her, and there was nothing on my face but utter shame.
“I wonder if the doctor didn't feel the weakness coming from you.” Sierra smiled. She was looking at me. “I mean, it reeks all over you and there is no—”
Slam!
Everyone went silent when Lukas placed his hand on the table; looking at him, I could see. He wasn't in the mood for their crap.
“Please, I came here to eat and get some rest from all the work. So if you want to bite your heads off, why don't you do it elsewhere?”
His eyes shot around, looking at everyone. As expected, no one uttered another word. I wasn't sure if I was happy that he did that, but I also wasn't sure I wanted to be at that table any longer.
They were all animals!
I kept eating slowly as I looked up to see Sierra still looking at me. I wasn't sure why, but I was a bit scared when our eyes met. She didn't seem like the kind of person I would love to be tangled with; if anything, she looked like she wanted to rip my head clean off.
It was what one would expect from the ‘Strongest Woman In The Pack.’
But then, what crime did I commit for the strongest woman to have her eyes on me like that?
“So, Alpha Lukas, now that your heir is on the way,. Does this mean we would be getting news of your Luna soon?”
One of the councilmen spoke up, looking at Lukas, who seemed to be focused on his meal.
He ate quite slowly, but it wasn't because of anything else but the fact he was being asked a question he would flag as irrelevant.
“We only needed an heir for the Throne of Pack Valrondale, so if I have only an heir, there is no need for another thing, is there, Elder Kole?”
He had a calm voice, but still it felt like he was avoiding the trouble that would come with all the responsibility.
“I know My Alpha, but you see-”
“I don't see anything but you and the other councilmen trying to bring up another agenda.” Lukas cut the Elder off rudely; there was no way for anyone to even say he didn't sound like a complete d**k when he did that.
I couldn't do it anymore!
I slowly got up from the table. I wasn't yet full, but I wasn't going to sit there and watch them bite my head off. It was either that or I would get killed by one of their laser eyes.
“May I be excused? I feel sick…” I bowed my head and said it was like I was being punished, but there wasn't anything I could do but plead for them to let me walk away.
Lukas was looking at me, and I knew nothing was going to save me from his dreadful gaze.
“Very well, Margaret will bring your leftovers and more to your quarters.”
Lukas said, without even looking at me—I wasn't sure if it was out of disgust or what, but I wasn't there to care about anything for the meantime.
I bowed my head.
“Thank you, Alpha Lukas.”
I said as I left the table, even though I was leaving the table, I could still feel their prying eyes on me.
‘This is going to be one long year, isn't it?’
I slowly walked away; I wasn't going to waste any time there. I would have exploded if I did; it wasn't going to be easy for me in any way to even look at them.
“She is weak; I couldn't even smell a wolf in her!”
“I wonder how she is going to bear the Alpha’s heir. I hope the child and its mother won't perish due to her weakness.”
Very tacky; they didn't even wait for me to leave the room, did they? It wasn't even a minute since I stood up, and they had things to say.
Yep, I was doomed.
“Time will tell; for now, I hope we can all accept Ayla as my child’s mother and do nothing to hurt her in any way.”
I heard the Alpha’s voice; my heart was a bit moved. Was it out of kindness, or was he only doing it because I carry his seed?
