Sam 2020 Dr Papskin leaves to go fill out the paperwork for Veronica's release, leaving me hovering in the doorway to her room, staring at her. "Are you just going to stand there or are you coming in?" Veronica asks me. It was the first time she'd ever invited me in, usually she would either tell me to leave or just not acknowledge my presence at all. I don't know what made her change but I was grateful for any morsel she'd throw my way, and so I stepped inside the brightly sunlit room.
