Chapter 6: "The Secret"
Briana's nerves were on edge as she waited for Xavier to arrive. She had spent hours getting ready, trying on different outfits and doing her hair and makeup.
When the doorbell rang, Briana's heart skipped a beat. She took a deep breath and opened the door, revealing Xavier standing in the hallway.
He looked stunning, dressed in a tailored black suit and holding a bouquet of red roses. Briana's heart fluttered as he smiled and handed her the flowers.
"You look beautiful," he said, his eyes locked on hers.
Briana blushed, feeling a sense of shyness wash over her. "Thank you," she said, taking the flowers from him.
As they drove to the restaurant, Briana couldn't help but notice the way Xavier's eyes seemed to gleam in the dark. She felt a shiver run down her spine as he reached out and took her hand, his touch sending sparks through her body.
At the restaurant, they were shown to a private table overlooking the city. The food was exquisite, and the wine was flowing. Briana felt herself relaxing in Xavier's presence, enjoying the easy banter and witty conversation.
But as the night wore on, Briana began to notice that Xavier seemed to be avoiding certain topics. He dodged her questions about his business dealings, and seemed reluctant to talk about his past.
Briana's journalist instincts kicked in, and she found herself wondering what Xavier was hiding. Was he involved in something shady? Was he hiding a dark secret?
As they finished their dessert and prepared to leave, Briana decided to confront Xavier about her suspicions. She leaned in close, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Xavier, can I ask you something?" she said, her eyes locked on his.
Xavier's expression was guarded, but he nodded. "Of course," he said. "What is it?"
Briana took a deep breath. "What are you hiding?" she asked, her voice firm.
Xavier's eyes seemed to flash with anger, but then his expression smoothed out. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said, his voice cool.
Briana's eyes narrowed. She knew that Xavier was lying to her. But she was determined to uncover the truth.
