The Warning

Chapter 4: "The Warning" Briana left Xavier's office with more questions than answers. She couldn't shake the feeling that there was something Xavier wasn't telling her. As she walked back to her car, Briana noticed a figure watching her from across the street. It was a woman with long, curly brown hair and a white blouse. She looked familiar, but Briana couldn't quite place her. The woman approached Briana as she reached her car. "Briana, wait," she said. Briana turned to face the woman. "Can I help you?" she asked. The woman hesitated, looking around nervously. "I'm Xavier's assistant," she said quietly. "I've been watching you, Briana. I know you're investigating Xavier." Briana's eyes narrowed. "What do you want?" she asked. The assistant glanced around nervously again. "I want to warn you, Briana. Xavier is not what he seems. He's hiding something, and I don't think it's safe for you to be around him." Briana felt a chill run down her spine. What could Xavier be hiding? And why was his assistant warning her away from him? "Who are you?" Briana asked the assistant. The assistant hesitated, looking around nervously once more. "My name is Sophia," she said quietly. "And I'm risking my job by talking to you, Briana." Briana's eyes locked onto Sophia's. "Why are you warning me?" she asked. Sophia's expression was serious. "Because I don't want to see you get hurt, Briana. Xavier is a complicated man, and he's not good for you." Briana felt a surge of determination. She was not going to back down from this story, no matter what Sophia said. "Thank you for warning me, Sophia," Briana said. "But I'm not going to stop investigating Xavier. I need to know the truth." Sophia's expression was grim. "Be careful, Briana," she said. "Xavier is not a man to be trifled with."
