[Volume 1] Chapter 3: Early Years II

1209 Words
After gobbling up my scrumptious meal, I give a kiss to the cheek of my mom who sat on a chair as a way of saying 'thank you' in which she then exclaimed like a boyband fangirl. I scurry up the stairs with another book in hand, this time, it was Certitude of Dragons and Mythical Beasts> I figured it was a journal so I thought it was going to be a quick read. I open my door and plop the book down, ready to read with my chest pressing down against the wooden floor. Flipping open the first page, I'm greeted with beautiful handwriting which had written the title of the book: "Certitude of Dragons and Mythical Beasts" and under it "William Ironwreath" Hmm, sounds like a high-ranked adventurer from a noble family. After reading more pages, I realize that this is more of a textbook than a journal. There were no entries, but rather, an immersive description of creatures. There were creatures in your typical RPG games, like dragons, wyverns, orcs, ogres, goblins, etc. But there were a good amount of creatures unique to this world, such as Yeuronics, Echoes, Terriboncs, Lumbres, and many more. Hours went by and the door downstairs unexpectedly opened. It was dad, he's probably discharged home early, as it was still not dark out. I rushed down the stairs to see a dark-haired, valiant knight, fresh in his armor, still wielding his sword.  "Hm? Oh, Lancelot! You're home early I see." Rosina said.  "Mhm, Tybalt discharged me early. I think he feels bad for me being a guard, he knows my specialty is magic."  "Ah, well, you might have to retire soon~," Rosina says, teasing him.  "Haha, I think that's a good idea. I ought to teach my son Reyn some magic, I want him to become a fine wizard one day." Lancelot replies.  "Heeeh? But I thought we agreed that he would major in arithmetic and literature to become a great professor of Dreamgrove Academy?" She argues, with a frown.  "Hehe, I thought we agreed on a magic  major as well."  "Hmph. If you don't stop arguing your food will go cold."  And with that single line, father's mouth never opened ever again, except to eat my mother's godly meal.  "Hey Rosi, where's Reyn?"  "Hm? Oh, I think he's reading some books upstairs. Can you bring him an apple? I worry that he won't have much energy."  Lancelot catches the plum apple, putting it on the wooden table before removing his armor and putting it on its stand, and his sword, on the rack. He picks up the apple, throwing it up in the air before it rests on his palm again. With each step on the stair, the closer he is to Reyn.  I feel the door open behind me, it was probably mom, I thought to myself.  "Hey there little mage, what are you reading?" A voice asked.  I turned around to be greeted by a muscular man, wearing a dark tunic with brown pants munching on an apple. It was dad. I picked up my book and showed him the title.  His eyebrows raised while reading the author's name.  "Ah, it's William!" he exclaims while swallowing the apple. "Do you know him?" I ask.  "Of course I do, we used to be classmates at Dreamgrove. The best alchemist I've met in a while," he responds.  I look at the book again, and thought to myself: Damn, there are actual alchemists in this world?  My dad must have noticed my confusion, because he chuckles before scooping me up and putting me above his head, holding my legs as I hold on to his head. We go downstairs and exit the house. "I'll be borrowing this boy for a bit." He said to Rosina. My face was greeted with a pleasing and cool breeze, tousling my hair. This was the first time I have been to a serene place, my city was always busy with vehicles and plagued with industry. But this village was resonating tranquility.  "Beautiful village isn't it?" Lancelot asked. "Mhm."  My dad wanders around the farms while discussing William Ironwreath. A few villagers waved, and I waved back, some maidens smiled at me and some greeted my dad. This simple interaction made me happy, as I was always neglected back on Earth. Anyways, I learned that William Ironwreath used to be in my dad's party back when they were in an adventurer's guild. Nicknamed the "Mad Scientist" William Ironwreath brewed countless potions; elixirs to poisons. He, however, had a hobby, and that was researching mythical creatures. Now, he is in the Southern Continent, still writing down about his discoveries. Eventually, I fell asleep on the way home, and my dad had to change into a piggy-back-ride stance to put me on the bed. The next morning, I continued on my previous book: "An Apprentice's Guide to Sorcery>" While mindlessly flipping through the pages for something interesting, I came across the topic of "Magic Aptitude Test" [To find out your innate magic, please complete the following steps.] Hmm, let's see... I put my hands together in a reverse-heart pose, closing my index with my thumb and making both of them idle against each other, taking a deep breath before sitting cross-legged. I continue taking deep breaths as I feel a blood-like substance circulating throughout my entire body. Is this how mana circulation feels like?  I feel my mana circulation surging, my heart is beating excessively. Heat starts generating around me. "Huh? Jerald, is that rain?"  "I don't know honey, looks like a storm is coming."  Water droplets start pounding on my window rapidly. A flash of lightning breaks the wooden roof, a plank tried to drop on my head, but it incinerated in an instant. My heart started to beat abnormally fast. My mana was going out of control. I screamed. "REYN! REYN!"  My eyes quickly opened to confront my disturbance. Seeing my parents, my vision becomes blurry, and I blackout. With that, the rain stopped and sunlight shone through the parting dark clouds.  "Oh my Lord Noui," Lancelot muttered. Dropping down on his knees, gobsmacked. Rosina on his side, flabbergasted but approaching her child, cradling him in her arms.  Lancelot shed a tear, what soon followed, was him crying a river, of joy.  "MY SON IS A WIZARD!"  ------------------------------------------------------------ Extras :D Yeuronics: Enormous spherical entities with pale-like skin, numerous tentacles tipped with eyes reach out from its back, with a giant green eye at the middle.
