Lightning Strikes

Annie felt like she wasn't in control anymore as she watched Jesse flirt shamelessly with Alex while innocent Alex blushed.

Now she wished she hadn't helped her get rid of that dead body, she would have informed the Principal and they would have gotten rid of her.

She wanted nothing more than to unleash her anger on this mundane who thinks she can just waltz into her territory and steal everything which belongs to her.

“Why is Jesse with her? Are they now together?” Cora, one of Annie’s friends asked.

Annie smiled, waving it off, “They can't be together. He's using her to pass time.”

“I hope you're sure about that,” another one, Susie said.

Annie felt the desire to strangle them both so they could shut up but she controlled herself and the moment Jesse walked to his seat she followed him and planted a kiss firmly on his lips.

“What do you want, Annie?” he asked, rolling his eyes.

“That you stop humiliating me in public for starters,” she hissed at him.

“I don't know what else you want me to tell you, Annie, how does one tell you he's uninterested without hurting your pretty feelings, huh?” he sneered at her.

“Just admit that you're doing it to pass time,” Annie said.

“Why? Is that what you've been telling your friends? Annie, the earlier you accept that we don't have a future the better for you. Besides I am not ready to mate with anyone for the rest of my life,” Jesse replied.

“Why don't you do us all a favor and officially call off the engagement then,” Annie said.

Jesse smiled, “I know what you want to do, Annie, and no it's not gonna work. You're not gonna put me at odds with the Dhampir Council of Elders, I'll do things on my own terms.”

With those words said, Annie knew she had no chance where Jesse was. She felt an intense rage especially since Alex has just displayed another rare ability.

She made a move to leave the class but was stopped by the teacher who entered with a group of foreign students.

Suddenly, a plan formed in Annie’s mind as she saw one of the students who was entering with Nicole and Ric.

“Good morning, students, I'm sorry about the interruption from earlier, we had to deal with a situation,” Nicole said, staring at Alex before she continued, “These students are from Danu Academy and they are here to spar with your level in defense magic.”

Annie smiled when her eyes settled on her subject, she began working her magic by using her darkest fear against her, it was the death of her parents.

Her parents had been killed in a vampire attack and it was all over the Dhampir news, she was the only one who survived and she was adopted by another nice family from a different Dhampir clan.

Annie made her memories of the attack seem so fresh while changing the faces of the people responsible for the attack instead she used the face of Alex’s ancestors, the name Vladimir kept resounding in the girl’s ears as she watched in horror as her parent's blood were drained that horrible night.

Nicole was the first person to notice the change in one of the students as her entire body froze up, her eyes seemed fixated on Alex and she had goosebumps all over her body.

“Are you alright, Lora?” Nicole asked, coming close to her.

“She is here,” Was all Lora said.

Nicole frowned wondering what she meant, “What do you mean? Who is here?”

“The one who had killed my parents, why would you let a traitor walk through the walls of this school?” Lora asked, anger visible on her face.

“Alex isn't a traitor and what her ancestors did was a hundred years ago, also she has no idea about any of these things so that doesn't make her a traitor. And your family was attacked after Alex's ancestors had been wiped out,” Nicole explained.

“No!” Lora thundered, “She is part of them, she is a crazy psycho who shouldn't be allowed to be near any of us.”

“What is happening, Lora? You are here for peaceful sparring, right?” Ric reminded her.

The girl paid no attention to them as she headed towards Alex, Annie felt the smile creep to the surface but she instead put on a sad face.

“I don't think this is going to end well, guys, Lora’s ability is lightning.”

The words were barely out of her lips when Lora struck and a scream ripped out of everyone’s throat and the air was filled with the smell of burnt flesh.
