CHAPTER 4
ALPHA DENARIUS’ POV
My mind wandered off again, still meddled in the same topic. I couldn’t stop thinking about the girl I had seen a few days ago. The connection was strong, more like she was my mate. Going back to the spot where we met for days I hadn’t seen any glimpse of her.
“She must have decided not to come back here again,” I thought internally as my eyes scanned around the environment trying to spot her. I wanted her in my arms again, her scent that hadn’t left my nostril since I sniffed her. The gentle smell of lavender.
“What are you up to?” I heard Evander’s voice as he was already sitting on my king-sized bed. “What do you mean?” I asked him rather with an annoyed look. “I hope you aren’t going on any killing streak again.” He raised his head to stare at me.
Ignoring his stupid question, I walked towards the pile of documents and sat down to start sorting them out. He stood watching me curiously as I tried to ignore him. Honestly, Evander would stop at nothing to get on my nerves. He was like a thorn in my flesh!
“Something is up with you, what’s that?” He asked as he brought a chair closer to where I was seated. “I noticed you have been going somewhere for the past few days,” he added and gave me a questioning look. Slamming my hands against the table, I shot him a glare.
“I guess I am not assigning lots of duties to you and now you have nothing else to do than irritate me!” I shouted angrily as he stood up abruptly. “Stop it, Denarius!” He called out my name making me also stand on my feet.
“I am not some servant which you speak to like that, I am more of a brother,” stopping him abruptly before he could complete his sentence, I left the room angrily. I hated Evander for this, always making me pissed. The cool breeze hitting my fur calmed me down for a bit as I strolled to nowhere in particular.
Having walked in several directions, I wasn’t shocked to know where my leg brought me to. Sniffing the environment to see if she was also here but there was nothing. What was I even thinking, all of this was stupid in the first place!
Heading back to the pack house, I made a mental note never to go back there again. She was somewhere regretting she ever saw me, many thoughts ran through my mind as I walked back to the pack house. “They are here already!” I heard the panicked voice of Evander. Staring at him gave him the go-on to continue what he was saying.
“The Vin’nyla’s has tracked you down here.” He dropped the bomb as I stared at him, my forehead wrinkled in worry. “Start preparing for war,” I said shortly as I turned and started heading back to my room with several thoughts.
I never wanted this, the lives of many were in danger and I fear the consequences. Grabbing the long pipe, I began my usual routine. Heaving loudly, I wondered why they were there. I had been taking their spies down for some months now.
Knowing the tribal chief was going to come for me, little did he know my plans for him. Knowing this day was fast approaching, I had prepared well for it. I was the great Alpha Denarius, no one could ever make me shiver, not even the tribal chief, seething my teeth. I prepared for work.
Doing my usual morning routine, I got to work and started typing furiously. Having sorted out some things, I requested my secretary. Pointing to a seat when she arrived, I noticed how she shivered on her seat. “I called you here for something important,” I paused to notice how her demeanor had changed. “I will not be available for some weeks and I need you to handle the firm.
Seeing that you have excellent behaviors to lead, I had chosen you among several others.” I said pausing to give her a stare. “Now beware, do not think I will let you go off easily if you do something stupid. My eyes are everywhere, any slight misstep from you will cost you your mother living at No 30 Kaguar Road.” I threatened as my voice rose.
Standing up abruptly, she went down on her knees. “Please don’t do anything to my mother, I will do the job perfectly,” she pleaded with a shaky voice. Dismissing her from my office, I removed all my secret documents before leaving the office.
I was going to be busy for a while and I didn’t want anything to distract me. Leaving a typed document of what she was supposed to do, I left the office and headed to the pack house.
Seeing Evander reminded me of so many memories, I could see the worry plastered on his face. He didn’t have his usual jovial face, it was now replaced with fear and pain. He was always worried about the tribal chief, and remembering what we had gone through made me go over to Evander.
Understanding perfectly what he had gone through, he still had fears no matter where we relocated to. “It will be fine,” I muttered as I squeezed his shoulder.
Nodding his head, we were interrupted by a guard. “Someone dropped this here.” He said as he handed me a parchment. “Here?” I asked not waiting to get his reply before running to the gate with Evander at my back. “No one is here any longer,” I announced.
Checking if everywhere was safe before heading back into the pack house. Opening the parchment, I scanned through to wriggle my face in confusion. “What does this mean?” Evander asked me as I tried connecting the dots.
“A special wolf was born on her twenty-first birthday.” I read out in confusion.
