It was their 4 month anniversary.
Amara didn’t remember. But Emeka did.
He came home with flowers. And a small box.
Amara frowned. "What’s this?"
Emeka got down on one knee.
"Amara," he said. "I know we got married because of a contract. I know it started wrong."
Amara's heart stopped.
"But I want to do it right," Emeka continued. He opened the box. A diamond ring. "Will you marry me? For real this time? No contract. Just love."
Tears fell down Amara's face. "Emeka... we’re already married."
"I know," he said, smiling. "But I want to propose. I want to give you the proposal you deserve. Will you say yes?"
"Yes," Amara sobbed. "A thousand times yes."
He slipped the ring on her finger and kissed her.
Later that night, after dinner:
"Can I ask you something?" Amara said.
"Anything."
"Do you ever regret it? Marrying me?"
Emeka pulled her onto his lap. "Regret you? Never. The best thing that ever happened to me was that stupid contract that brought you to me."
He kissed her. Slow. Deep.
"I love you, Mrs. Okoye," he whispered.
"I love you too, Mr. Okoye," she whispered back.
THE END... OF THE BEGINNING ❤️
