Title: Bonus Episode 12: The Apology

303 Words
The doorbell rang on Saturday morning. Amara opened it and froze. Mrs. Okoye. Standing there with 3 big gift bags. "May I come in?" she asked. No attitude. Just... tired. Amara looked at Emeka. He nodded. "Come in, Mother." They sat in the living room. Awkward silence. Finally Mrs. Okoye sighed. "I owe you both an apology." Amara blinked. "Ma?" "I was cruel to you," Mrs. Okoye said, looking at Amara. "I called you a gold digger. I said you trapped my son. I was wrong." Emeka took Amara's hand. Mrs. Okoye continued. "I watched you. The way you take care of Emeka. The way you cried when you thought he was hurt. The way you’re carrying my grandchild." She paused. "You love him. And he loves you. That’s all that matters." Tears fell down Amara's face. "Thank you, ma." Mrs. Okoye pushed the gift bags forward. "Baby clothes. Toys. And this..." She pulled out a small gold bracelet. "For you. My grandmother’s. It’s tradition." Amara stared. "I... I can’t accept this." "You can," Mrs. Okoye said firmly. "You’re family now." After she left, Amara and Emeka were quiet. "Did that really just happen?" Amara asked. Emeka pulled her onto his lap. "My mother just apologized. To you. It’s a miracle." Amara laughed. "Do you think she’ll babysit?" Emeka grinned. "She’ll probably try to hire 5 nannies." They both laughed. That night, lying in bed, Emeka’s hand on her stomach: "Are you happy?" he asked. Amara smiled. "So happy. We fought so hard for this." "And we won," Emeka whispered. He kissed her. "I promise to love you and this baby forever." "I promise too," Amara said. Outside, the rain started. But inside, it was warm. No more contracts. No more pain. Just family. Just love. THE END... OF OUR BEGINNING ❤️
