Days passed, but the diary and the message haunted me. I avoided the west wing, obeying Adrian’s warning—but I couldn’t avoid him.
He seemed different. Less distant, sometimes… softer. Small moments—an unexpected smile, a hand brushing mine while handing me a drink—made my pulse race. Dangerous, thrilling.
One evening, I was struggling to reach a book on a high shelf. Adrian appeared behind me like he always did—silent, imposing, commanding attention.
“Here,” he said, his hand gently guiding the book to my grip. Our fingers brushed, and a spark shot through me, electric and undeniable.
I looked up at him, heart pounding. “I… shouldn’t,” I whispered, unsure if I meant it.
“Why not?” he asked, leaning just slightly closer. His voice was low, almost magnetic.
I tried to pull away, but my chest betrayed me. I was falling, despite the fear, despite everything.
Adrian’s eyes darkened for a moment, unreadable, and then he turned, leaving me with my racing thoughts and the warmth of his touch lingering longer than it should.
