CHAPTER 8. MARRIAGE BY CONTRACT

1825 Words
BLAKE'S POV There is something about seeing Mya annoyed like this that turns me on. I used to enjoy her very serious, angry tantrums every time I was around. That is why I took every opportunity I could to annoy her. I would hide her bicycle sometimes when I knew she was planning to use it with Ashton or I would sneak around and send a text to a random friend of hers asking to meet me somewhere, and then when nobody showed up and she found out what I did, she would be so pissed she would chase me out of the house, the worst one though was when I caught some frogs in a pond nearby and I let them lose in the ballroom while she was celebrating her 16th birthday party, everyone stopped dancing and started running for their lives. Grandma Eloise thought it was funny, but a little too much, my parents were not happy at all and made me chase the slimy reptiles until I had caught them all, I had to apologize to Mya in front of everyone that night, but she never forgave me, at least not that I know. Once I hear Priscilla basically make fun of her by being condescending and I can see the fire in her eyes, but I also can see the massive storm that she is about to start, so before anybody loses their head, I step in. "Hello miss Elloway, how are you this morning?" I play with her just a little, giving her my best smile. She looks like she's about to slap me. Wouldn't be the first time, but I prefer to save that for another moment or maybe never. "Sorry, Mya," I tell her. She stops herself and looks at me expectantly. "Ladies, let me introduce you." I tell Esther and Priscilla who are looking at me dreamily. These girls try to flirt all the time, but I'm not even remotely interested. If anything, them trying only makes me laugh. "This is Mya Elloway, granddaughter of Eloise Devereaux." I tell them. Mya now has a smirk on her face, and Esther and Priscilla don't know where to hide. 'So sorry ma'am, we didn't know, nobody..." They are trying really hard to apologize, but Mya stops them. "I'm not interested in fake apologies, but I will definitely talk to Ashley about training the staff in customer service, and now, can I please get the card to the elevator?" Oh s**t, she wants to give them a hard time. I can't help but smile, watching her tell them off, there is no doubt she was meant to run this place, hell, she can run me and I wouldn't complaint, I find her absolutely sexy. "No worries, Mya, you can use my card, better yet, I'll come with you." I tell her. I'm not giving her the chance to decline my offer because I'm already taking her towards the VIP elevator area. MAYA'S POV Why does he have to be everywhere? Seeing him makes me feel like the stupid teenager that had a crush on him, you would think that I fulfilled my fantasies that night in my bedroom, but apparently, I'm still hoping he looks at me differently. Ugh, get it together Mya, is not real. We get in the elevator, and as soon as it is reaching the top floor, he stops it. What is he doing? "I've been trying to get you to talk to me!" He tells me, stepping close to me. I can't have him this close to me. "Why are you running away? Did you not enjoy our night together?" Really? "Blake, we agreed not to talk about it. It was one time. It was good, but now, you can continue with your life, and I can continue with mine. I'm leaving after I meet with the lawyer, and I never want to be back." I tell him. He is so close to me, is making me hot. "Ok, then let's make it count. Meet me after we are done here. One last time, the two of us. I know a place. It is discreet and just perfect. Mya, I can't stop thinking about that night, I can't get you out of my head, please, one last time, then you leave, and you will never hear from me again." His eyes are pleading, his voice is so desperate. Why can't I say no? Blake makes me weak. Truth is, I can't stop thinking about that night either, I had the best s*x of my life. With Brad, it was more missionary and sometimes doggy, but more often than not, it was over before it began. This might be my only chance to have good s*x for a while, but I'm not very sure. "Blake, is not a good idea. You have a girl..." He interrupts me by giving me a kiss that makes my legs feel like jelly. Thank God he is holding me hard because I would probably fall on the ground with a loud thud. I can't even remember what I was going to tell him. "Please, Mya? we have like15 seconds before they come checking on us. I need an answer." Ugh, those eyes! I can't focus. His blue eyes pull me like calming ocean waves. The words don't come out for once, but I nod. "I'll text you all the details." He tells me excitedly. I am really questioning my choices right now. What did I just agree to? He is leaning in for another kiss, but we hear the elevator door open, and he turns around. "There you two are," Ashley's voice startles us. "Sorry." We both say at the same time, stepping out of the elevator. "We are only waiting for you two to start." She tells us. I can't help but wonder why Blake is attending? Yes, my grandmother loved him, but I can't imagine her leaving anything to a non family member. I don't know if I care, enough to ask. I'll find out soon enough. We follow Ashley to one of the meeting rooms. When we come in, we see several people there, looking bored. Uncle Chad is at the head of the table. He has a big smirk he can't hide, stupid asshole, I really hope someone knocks that smile from his face. Blake's parents are next, Penny looks very happy, and Jason seems surprised to see us together, but at the same time, pleased. Laura's moms are also attending, Ashley is sitting next to her wife, Lisa, not surprising. They were grandma's counselors and most discreet employees. finally, on the other side of the table is Mr. Anderson, Grandma Eloise's lawyer. Blake pulls a chair for me, which I take, ignoring all the looks everyone is giving us, and he sits next to me. "Perfect, we can start," Mr. Anderson says . 'Mrs. Devereaux wanted all of you together so you could hear her last will and testament. I have it all written right here, but she wanted to tell you herself." He says, and the TV comes down, and he takes the remote to start a video. Grandma Eloise's image appears, looking stoic and strong, sitting on her throne, that's what I call the ugly golden chair that she used to sit on, but it actually suits her, she was always intimidating, even in death with her perfect make up and hair, her brown eyes have the seriousness the business requires. Mr. Anderson plays the video, and we all turn to look at the screen. "If you are all here is because I asked my lawyer to gather everyone. Each one of you has had a place in my life, and it is my wish that after my death, each of you get what you deserve." She starts. "First, it is my wish that Penny and Jason will get all rights and royalties obtained from Meadarux wines, that as you know, is a stand alone company that was started when my daughter Tea and her husband James were still alive. Penny and Jason continued their legacy and, as such, they deserve all the rights to the wineries." Nobody says a word, I am surprised to learn about the start of the wineries and happy that Blake's family gets to keep them. I guess that solves why he is here. Only Uncle Chad is starting to look upset, but still quiet. "Next, it is my wish that my son Chad takes charge of the art division of Devereaux and Company. All the exhibitions and revenue will be a separate institution that will belong solely to Chad Devereaux, Mr. Anderson has all the documents ready to start the process." I can see uncle Chad's smile slowly dissappear. The art division is profitable, but it is probably the one that takes the most work. "To my dear Ashley Lewis and her wife Lisa Castro, my faithful companions and right hand all these years. They will keep the apartment and the building they currently reside in. They will also get the sum of $20,000 monthly until their death. They can decide to continue to work for Devereaux and Company or use their monthly allowance to retire." I see Ashley and Lisa hold hands. Their eyes shed a couple of tears, but they quickly held them back. "My family home will be inherited by my granddaughter Mya Elloway, The property has to be kept only in her name, and pass to any children her and her husband may have." I was not expecting that. I will have to talk to her lawyer to figure out the best way to sell it without the current employees losing their jobs, I don't know what Grandma was thinking, I don't have plans to get married much less having children. I can see uncle Chad from the corner of my eye. He is trying to hide how unhappy this is making him. Ha, serves him right, for thinking he would be taking over. "The rest of Devereaux assets, including those acquired with Devereaux-Meade corporation, Mr. Anderson can give you a detailed list of the assets. but it roughly includes hotels, restaurants, boutiques, the home away luxury brand apartments, houses in different parts of the country and some important cities in the world, etc. Mr. Anderson, in due time, please tell these kids the details of what I'm talking about." Mr. Anderson makes a slight nod that makes me almost laugh. My grandmother had such a strong personality that even from beyond she can make people do what she asks. "Everything will be inherited by Blake Meade and my granddaughter Mya Elloway, under the condition that they get married the day before Christmas." What? Blake and I look at each other astonished and speechless. "This is outrageous." Uncle Chad declares standing up, his face is red, and he is looking directly at me.
