The room smelled like expensive whiskey, leather, and blood.
Ayesha Malik stood barefoot on the cold marble floor of Rayan Khan's mansion. Twenty men in black suits stood around her like statues. All of them had guns. All of them were watching her.
And at the center of it all, sitting on a black throne-like chair, was him.
Rayan Khan.
The Mafia King of Lahore.
He was 28 years old, but his eyes looked a hundred. Cold. Empty. Dangerous. He wore a black three-piece suit with no tie. A silver watch. And the kind of power that made the air feel heavy to breathe.
Ayesha's father was on his knees beside her, sobbing. "Please Mr. Khan, she is all I have. My debt... I swear I will pay it. Just give me six more months."
Rayan didn't even look at him. He was looking only at Ayesha.
She was 22. University student. Simple white shalwar kameez. No makeup. Hair tied in a messy braid. She was trembling, but her chin was held high. She refused to cry in front of him.
"So," Rayan's voice was low. It cut through the silence like a knife. "This is the payment."
The word payment made Ayesha's blood freeze.
"She is not a thing," Ayesha spoke for the first time. Her voice shook but it was loud. "I am a person."
Rayan finally looked at her properly. From head to toe. Slow. Like he was buying a car. His lips curved into a smirk that didn't reach his eyes.
"A person who comes with a 50 crore debt," he said. "A person whose father gambled away everything. A person who now belongs to me."
"I don't belong to anyone," Ayesha stepped forward. One of the guards immediately put his hand on his gun.
Rayan raised one hand and the guard stopped. "Let her talk."
Ayesha took a deep breath. "My father made a mistake. But I didn't. Why should I pay for his sins?"
"Because," Rayan stood up. He was 6'2. Broad shoulders. He walked around his desk and stopped right in front of her. He smelled like cedarwood and danger. "In my world, family debts are paid by family. And your father offered you."
Her father broke down crying louder. "I'm sorry beta, I'm sorry. He said if I didn't give him something, he would kill us both."
Ayesha closed her eyes. She felt sick. Betrayed. Angry. Scared.
When she opened her eyes, Rayan was holding a single page contract in his hand.
"One year," he said. "You live in my house for one year. You follow every rule I make. You go where I tell you to go. You do what I tell you to do. After 365 days, your father's debt is cleared. He walks free. You walk free."
"And if I say no?" Ayesha asked.
Rayan leaned down. His face was inches from hers. She could see the scar on his jaw. She could feel his breath.
"Then your father dies tonight," he whispered. "And I still take you. But without the contract. Without the rules. Do you understand the difference?"
Ayesha understood. With the contract, she had some dignity. Without it, she had nothing.
The pen was placed in her hand. It felt like ice.
She looked at her father one last time. He couldn't even meet her eyes.
Her hand didn't shake when she signed. Ayesha Malik.
Rayan signed below her. Rayan Khan.
"Good," he said, taking the contract. "You made the smart choice."
He clapped once. "Take her to the east wing. Room 301. She starts tomorrow."
Two guards stepped forward.
"Wait," Ayesha said. "What are the rules?"
Rayan was already walking away. He stopped and looked over his shoulder. "You will learn them tomorrow. At 8 AM. In my office. Don't be late."
That night, Ayesha didn't sleep.
Room 301 was beautiful. King size bed. Marble bathroom. Walk-in closet full of new clothes in her size. How did he even know her size? There was a TV, a bookshelf, even a small balcony.
It was a golden cage.
At 7:55 AM, there was a knock. A maid in black uniform entered. "Mr. Khan is waiting."
Ayesha followed her down three floors. The mansion was huge. Like a palace. Guards everywhere. Cameras everywhere. No way out.
The office doors were double and black. The maid opened them and left.
Rayan was sitting behind a massive desk. He was on a call in Italian. He hung up when he saw her.
"Sit," he said, pointing to the chair.
She sat.
For a full minute, he just stared at her. Then he slid a paper across the desk.
"The rules," he said.
Ayesha picked it up. Her hands were shaking again.
Rule 1: You do not leave this house without my permission. Ever.
Rule 2: You eat what I tell you to eat. When I tell you to eat.
Rule 3: No phone. No internet. No contact with the outside world.
Rule 4: You will address me as Sir.
Rule 5: You will wear what I choose for you.
Rule 6: No crying. No complaining. No weakness.
Rule 7: My room, my car, my office are off limits unless I call you.
Rule 8: You will accompany me to events as my fiancée. You will act the part.
Rule 9: You do not talk back to me.
Rule 10: Do not fall in love with me. I will ruin you.
Ayesha read the last rule three times. "This is insane."
Rayan stood up and walked around the desk. He stopped behind her chair. She could feel him there.
"This is my house, Ayesha," he said in her ear. "And for the next 364 days, you are mine."
He placed something cold on the table in front of her. A thin silver collar with a small chain attached.
"Rule 0," he whispered. "Never forget who owns you."
Ayesha stared at the collar. Then she looked up at him. Her jaw was tight. Her eyes were full of fire.
"I may be your captive," she said quietly. "But I will never be yours."
For a second, something flickered in Rayan's cold eyes. Surprise? Respect? Anger?
He smiled. A slow, dangerous smile.
"We will see about that, Ayesha Malik."
He picked up the collar and put it back in the drawer. "You have one hour to get ready. We have a charity gala tonight. You are my date. Wear the red dress in your closet."
"I'm not going," Ayesha said.
Rayan walked back to his chair. "Then your father loses one finger. Every time you disobey me."
Ayesha stood up. Her whole body was shaking with rage. "You are a monster."
"Yes," Rayan agreed. "And you are living in my cage, little bird."
He picked up his phone, dismissing her. "One hour."
Ayesha walked out of the office. Her legs felt like jelly. But her heart was burning.
She didn't know Rayan Khan yet. But she knew one thing.
She would not break. Not for him. Not for anyone.
Even if she had to live in his cage for 365 days.
She would find a way to make the Mafia King regret the day he signed that contract.
The game had just begun.
