Lilac “Lilac, you asked to see us? This better be important cause you know we’re busy planning your wedding with Alpha Mavin.” My mother’s familiar voice filled the room from behind me. It wasn't the soft tone she always has for my twin, it was brisk, emotionless and impatient. She and my father stood beside each other, looking very put together, with no hair out of place. Pack alpha of the Nyx pack and his beloved luna. “It’s more than important, mother, considering it’s about my wedding ceremony.” I pointed out in a calm voice which betrayed the raging turmoil within me. “I’m canceling it.” My mother looked like she just got slapped. “What?? When the wedding is only three days away?!” She screeched, her shrill voice rising. “I caught him with Ava.” I revealed quietly, my voice raw and hollowed. I was supposed to hang out with Mavin this morning, but he unexpectedly bailed on me. I stopped by his house to drop off the last batch of our wedding invites, only to overhear a conversation that revealed the truth to me. “You’re my love and the only woman my heart beats for, sweetheart. Of course I’ll only make Lilac my Luna in name. She’ll be too stupid to figure that out.” His deep voice echoed through the closed door. I had frozen up from shock, unable to believe what I just heard from a man I genuinely believed loved me, then another familiar, soft voice followed suit. “I seriously can’t wait to become your actual luna.” And that was a voice I’d recognize anywhere. Ava, my twin sister, who was supposed to be away, due to her abruptly leaving after that incident that took place four years ago, which almost had me killed. I expected my parents to look surprised, but they didn’t. “That’s it?” My father demanded, his eyes narrowed now. “You’ll selfishly cancel the union which would merge two respectful packs because of that??!” I reared back, my heart clenching tightly. “So you both knew Ava is back?” I looked between them, unable to believe my eyes, and another wave of betrayal lurched through me. “She can come and go whenever she wants, after all, this is her home, Lilac. And the throne rightfully belongs to her anyway.” My mother gritted, her eyes now glaring daggers at me. “And you’ve always known that she and Mavin liked each other. That’s why you fabricated that lie four years ago which made her decide to leave unannounced!” Ava left the pack unannounced right after that incident four years ago, and clearly they still resented me for that. “No! That’s not true! I’d never lie like that, they were just friends back then. Mavin told me himself when I asked him!” I cried out, my hands staking from all the anger bubbling within me. “And I’m your daughter too! I almost died four years ago, why do you only care about Ava?” Her eyes flashed with anger. “What else was he supposed to tell you when you were clearly in love with him and he already knew he could only get mated to you because of the silver wolf.” “And you’ll never be my true daughter! You’ve been poisoned by the human world. You’ll never be perfect like Ava, and that silver wolf should have been hers, then we’d not have bothered looking for you!” I flinched hard, her words slicing through me like a knife while the world briefly dimmed around me. I grew up believing I was a human my whole life, due to growing up as a slave in the human world, while Ava grew up raised by our parents, as their only child and their pack’s princess. It wasn’t till Ava shifted at eighteen and her wolf ended up being an omega brown wolf, instead of the destined silver alpha-wolf their daughter was supposed to be born with according to a century old prophecy— which says their bloodline would birth a bearer of the last silver wolf. Some digging made them discover they actually birthed twins and not one daughter, then they searched for me. On my nineteenth birthday, I was found, and I managed to shift after consuming a special portion. My wolf ended up being the flaming, destined silver wolf. After that, I thought the days that followed, they’d love me and treat me like a daughter, but that day never came. I only constantly got compared to Ava, who played the innocent act in front of everyone, but made my life hell behind closed doors. It didn’t help that I never managed to shift on my own since my first shift. “So this means I was played for four whole years and you all knew?!” I demanded, my voice finally rising, my fisted hands shaking at my side. “This is so… so sick.” “Don’t make this a big deal. Ava is fragile because of her omega-wolf. She needs more protection, that’s why I have to get mated to you even though I don’t want it, so you absolutely can’t cancel the ceremony.” Mavin’s impatient voice echoed from the doorway and I slowly turned around, taking in the sight of him standing there, Ava in a cream summer dress, pressed against his chest. Her porcelain face was utterly beautiful and innocent looking. No one would ever believe the sheer evil she was capable of. Mavin’s handsome face, which I fell in love with at first glance, was filled with annoyance as he regarded me now. I never could have guessed that the same man who worshipped the ground I walked on, was deceiving me this whole time. All his frequent trips away made a lot of sense now. I looked between all of them, unable to believe they were all in on deceiving me. And it was to protect Ava. They don’t care about my feelings or my wellbeing. It’s only Ava. The simmering anger in my chest swelled as I spoke, my voice thankfully unwavering. “I’ll never marry you, Mavin. I refuse to be a shadow in my marriage.” My father's eyes were hard as he instantly stalked towards me and I instantly swallowed a scream, my heart almost exploding from fear. My father, Alpha Kaden, terrifies me to the core, cause he has never stopped feeling like a stranger to me since they found me. He’s a ruthless pack alpha who the entire pack respects immensely. “If you try to do anything stupid, you’ll be punished. You know we never got to punish you for lying against your sister four years ago. You’ll marry Mavin in three days and fulfill your duty to the pack!” He growled right in front of me, his eyes blazing. I didn’t know where the courage came from but I shook my head fast, my nail cutting through my palms from how palm now. “No, father! I’ll never marry hi—” I didn’t see the slap coming till it connected with my cheek, sending a sharp stinging pain through my blazing cheek. “So what if you’ll only be a Luna in name?! Your fate was to waste away slaving in the human world if we hadn’t come for you when we did, so stop f*****g complaining!” He barked right into my face, each word ripping my heart to pieces. The tears threatened to fall but I held it in with everything in me. He jerked me close with an iron grip on my arm, his hold tightening till it hurt, then he continued. “And if you try something stupid like attempting to run away, you’ll be caught, then you’ll finally be punished for all the lies you’ve told against your sister. Got it?!”
