Lilac “Are you sure about this, my lady?!” Aries, my personal maid whisper-shouted after I confided in her about my plan of running away. Aries is someone I am very certain loved me genuinely and wanted only the best for me. Since she got assigned to me right after I was taken from the human world, she’s loved me wholeheartedly and never regarded me like I was some weirdo for being unable to shift by myself like everyone else, and I love her so much in return. “Of course. It’s gonna work, think about it.” I insisted. Despite my father’s warnings last night, I was still gonna try running away no matter what, cause I wasn’t prepared to spend the rest of my life in Ava’s shadows. “You might get caught and punished cruelly, my lady. Remember we’re being tailed right now.” Aries whispered tearfully, and I glanced over my shoulder, catching sight of a few guards instantly ducking out of sight. Since last night, I’ve noticed guards subtly watching me, undoubtedly placed to watch my every move by my father, to ensure I don’t try to flee. A sigh left my mouth when I faced Aries again. “We'll just have to outsmart them.” Aries looked like she wanted to argue but swallowed her words, then we resumed walking. At the sight of a few pack members walking past us, my mind returned to last night. While I was breaking down in my room, the rest of the pack, along with my parents and Mavin, celebrated Ava’s long awaited return, while declaring her their true, beloved Princess. That made me realize that all my effort to make the pack members love and accept me for the past five years, constantly working hard and trying to please them, was all for nothing. Which further fueled my decision to flee. Just as we took another turn, about four guards suddenly jumped out of the trees to stand in front of us. My heart jumped and I stumbled back, anger flashing through me. “I know my father ordered you all to tail me, but couldn’t you be more subtle?!” They didn’t respond but instead roughly grabbed Aries and I, their hands closing around our months as we were dragged into the bush. I tried to scream or ask questions but it was impossible, then I struggled hard to free myself to no avail. Panic instantly flared though me on realizing something was terribly wrong. That silent thought was confirmed when a white rag was pressed against my nose and mouth, my eyes taking in the sight of the man dressed in the pack’s guard attire. I don’t recognize him or the other guards either, and with a jolt, I realized that this wasn’t my pack’s guards. This whole time, I wasn’t being tailed by the pack’s guards but by these men. My limbs instantly began to grow heavy and in no time, I was pulled under. With a gasp, I jolted awake, instantly sitting up, my heart pounding fast. I wasn’t tied up, but I didn’t recognize where I was at. My maid wasn’t anywhere in sight either. “Good, you’re finally awake. Wouldn’t want you to miss the sight of my face when I tear your heart out.” That echoing voice made my entire body stiffen, cause that’s a voice I’d recognize anywhere. I instantly looked around, then I almost passed out again. Alpha Alaric. I blinked fast, but the sight didn’t change and I struggled to breathe. At the other side of the darkened room, there he was, shirtless, terrifyingly large and leaning against the bars. His face was just as handsome as I remembered it being four years ago. But, those softness in his eyes right after he saved me that night, were nowhere to be found. Dread slowly pooled in my stomach after I quickly looked around and realized that I was presently in the cell Alpha Alaric was locked up in all these years. Alpha Alaric. The Alpha king, and the alpha of every other alphas, powerful enough to make the strongest pack alphas kneel. He conquered kingdoms effortlessly, and left chaos wherever he went. And I was right here in his cell… How did I end up here? The last thing I remembered was passing out. A choked squeak left my mouth when he suddenly rose to his full height. His eyes were dark, so dark, the rage simmering in them unnerved me. “Lilac.” He slowly droned, a low rumbling growl that made my insides frizzle with fright. I gaped at him, terrified by the fact that he remembered my name. “H- hi, alpha Alaric.” I finally whispered, my voice sounding embarrassingly high pitched and weak to me. “Um, it’s been a while.” A sound between a laugh and a scoff left his mouth, his head c*****g sideways. “Has it?” He swiftly closed the distance between us, and my mouth soundlessly moved as he crouched in front of me, his mouth curving in a smirk. His scent instantly clogged my nose. Sage, forest and musk, forming a heady, dizzying combination. “After all these years, imagine my shock when my cell was opened and your unconscious body was thrown in here for me to tear apart.” He reached up and grazed my jaw with his cold fingertips and my spine grew rigid from fright. “P- please don’t hurt m—” His eyes flashed darkly. “Shush.” Terror slammed through me and another choked sound left me. I tried wondering who it was that had those disguised men captured and thrown me in here so I’d be killed. Everyone knew Alpha Alaric turned into a raging beast since he got locked up, one who tears into anyone he gets his hands on ever since. “I should break your little limbs right now, and listen to your cries of pain like it’s music.” He murmured casually and fear washed over me again. “It’s gonna hurt so much…” his fingers pushed my chin higher. “I mean, it’s the least you deserve after how you backstabbed me four years ago.” I sucked in a sharp breath, my entire insides tensing sharply. That’s what he thinks? The day we crossed paths was still as vivid in my mind like it took place yesterday. That was the day Ava planned for me to be killed. While running from those wild rogues she set me up to be devoured by, I happened to stumble upon him, in his wolf form, caught in a dangerous trap. I pleaded with him to save me from being devoured— and he did. After he saved me, I freed him from the trap and healed his injury. My ability to heal was my little secret and he was the first and only person I had ever used that ability on. “I- I swear, I didn’t betray yo—” His hand suddenly wrapped around my throat and my face paled as he jerked me close, the darkness in his eyes utterly terrifying. “Tell me one convincing reason why I shouldn’t kill you right now. You only have one chance.” He growled, but I could barely think knowing my life was in his hands like this. “I…I—” “You’ve used up your chance.” He announced and my heart dropped with a sickening crack within me just as his hand around my throat began to squeeze. “I… I can get you out of here!” I choked out desperately. He paused, his brows arching. “And why the hell would I believe that? If you really can do that, would whoever it was that wanted you dead have sent you down here?” My mind soared fast in thoughts. He was right. “I— I think cause they assumed y- you’d have killed me before I woke up.” I spoke fast, terror thrumming through my entire body. “I know the password of the lock, I can get you out, I swear! Just promise to not kill me, please.” A laugh left his throat this time, low and amused, then his hold around my throat tightened till I struggled to breathe. “You think now that I know this, I can’t just order you to open the cell before killing you? Think you’re in a place to negotiate with me?” I gasped hard, shaking my head fast. “No, no! I’m sorry!” My lungs burned hard, spots dancing behind my eyes before his hold loosened again, then I added fast. “B- but you will be met with over a hundred guards right outside your cell.” His cell was located underground, and was being guarded by over one twenty guards. That was how dangerous he was. Despite his cell being infused with a powerful spell that should assure everyone he’d never be able to break free, the entire pack members still fear that he might escape one day. He grinned now, the sight utterly chilling. “So you think your pack’s weak guards can stop me?” He was right. None of them can, and after all, him landing in this cell wasn’t because he was defeated by anyone. It was because of me. And as I blinked up at him, a thought suddenly materialized in my head, a way to not only save myself now, but also from my fate in two days. So I pushed through the fear within me and blurted out the next words in my mind. “T- they can’t, but all the warriors would come fight as well. I- it might be too much unnecessary drama for you, when you can escape more easily.” He watched me as the seconds dragged out, then he finally dropped his hand from my throat, and a little relief bleed through me. “Go on.”
