I came awake with a jolt, as the heavy drapes were pulled back over the high windows, letting the watery sunlight filter in. Hitting me straight across the face so had no choice to blink, throwing my arm up to shield my eyes.
I didn’t even remember falling asleep, I didn’t really remember much of anything after talking to my birth parents. Whether it was shock or just my brains coping mechanism I didn’t know but I had completely shut myself down.
David had wanted to spend the night together, I remembered that much but the thought of seeking comfort from him had sent bile rising into my mouth.
