Massy's super natural ability to fall asleep literally anywhere came in handy. Especially when it came to flights was hands down the best entertainment her teammates ever got. She became a test dummy most of the time, seeing how many random pieces of food could fit in her mouth, or how many pillows could be piled on her lap before she finally woke up. Trying to wake Massy up at the end of a flight was like trying to get a rock to float.
"Give me another pillow!" Megan said laughing to Alex. She handed her the slim uncomfortable airplane pillow and stacked it on her lap.
"How can she not feel this!? There's eight pillows stacked on her lap." Alex laughed covering her eyes and doing her best not to be too loud.
"Just leave them there, so when she wakes up, she's like what the fuck." Megan also couldn't help her laughter as she backed away to her seat behind Massy.
Second flight landed the women in JFK airport, Brazil was paradise, nothing like what they displayed on tv, but there was no place like home. Massy smiled as she breathed in, New York even had a distinct smell about it, it was a 'city' smell, it was hard to explain if you asked her, but that was how she described it all her life.
Her home was quiet. The dogs were shuffled off to Maria's due to her parents also being in Brazil. Odell was already in Buffalo for tomorrow's game, a few of Sonny's toys that were left behind still laid on the living room floor. Massy rolled her eyes as she continued walking through the house noticing a different pair of Odell's shoes still scattered every ten feet, at this point she didn't care what closet he put them back in as long as they were in one. As much as it annoyed her she smiled, she was happy to be back, yet her body was too tired to bend over and pick any of them up.
Sharp short pains shot through her right ankle again, it wasn't swollen or discolored but as an athlete she knew something wasn't right, and she knew something had to be done. She frowned and sighed filling a large bucket with ice water then placed her right foot inside she sat down on the couch and allowed her body to relax. A rearing of NFL live was in the middle of discussing their usual football lingo. Massy grabbed the tv remote and turned the volume up.
"Odell Beckham Jr is showing no interesting in adding fuel to the fire before his highly anticipated matchup with Josh Norman in a few Sundays when the Redskins visit MetLife Stadium. It will be the first meeting between Beckham and Norman since they engaged in a game-long brawl last Dec when Norman was a member of the Carolina Panthers. Both players have fanned the flames of the rivalry with comments this offseason, but Beckham is remaining unbothered." Rich Eisen turned from the camera putting his attention on NFL legend Michael Irvin. "Mic you're someone that know OBJ personally. You've played with him, you've worked out with him, you've coached him. Where do stand on the Norman and Beckham situation?"
"I'm ready for football! That's what I'm excited about. You know the media has a tendency to turn a controlled situation into a forest fire and this is what happens! It... It takes away from the game of football, because everybody wants to see the drama, everybody wants to see the fight on the field. You know!? An an these are good guys, great players. I know OBJ personally and he's just a guy that wants to play football, he just wants to be on that field running and catching, and that's rare with these young kids today, he's not concerned with the outside world, he's not concerned with the benefits of his name, the boy just wanna play football. We need to get back to the heart of football, what's done in the field is on the field, leave the soap operas at home, leave the drama. We gotta get back to the game."
Rich nodded his head. "Mick I couldn't agree with you more. I definitely think the media has done a big part in the Beckham vs Norman match, but up next we discuss the 49er's Quartback Colin Kaepernick's silent protest during the National Anthem and will he continue to take a knee during tomorrow's game?"
Massy frowned as she listened to the words coming from Rich's mouth. Being away for 20 days on another continent could really pushed you behind on current events. She really had no clue what was going on in the NFL if it didn't involve Odell, nor did she really care to know, but with a close friend like Kaepernick's involvement with a protest in which he took a knee during the National Anthem before a NFL Sunday Football only fueled her curiosity on what exactly he was doing. She sat up straight putting more focus as the commercial break ended.
"Kaepernick began his silent protesting by sitting during the national anthem this preseason. To show support for people of color who are being oppressed in the United States, and to take a stand against police brutality. An effort to use his voice and his position as a NFL player to effect change for the people who are suffering, and don't have the same ability to create significant change. He released this statement after the game telling reporters quote "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder." Deion, your thoughts on this?"
Massy eyes widened as Rich read off the quote, her mouth open, and all her attention on the tv. "Oh shit." She mumbled to herself.
"You know, Ima say this and I've said this before. You know a lot of people complain when athletes don't use their platform and name to stand up for something, they complain when they stay quiet about something, then when we do stand up for something, when we DO use our platform and name they complain and say it's not right! You can't do it that way. Let me tell you something, this is America. Just like you got the right to not like what he's doing and the way he's doing it, he got the same right to do what he's doing and the way he's doing it. At the end of the he's bring attention to a situation that's going on out here, and this is the way he's doing it." Deion Sanders spoke in a serious tone of voice as he backed Kaepernick up, this wasn't the first time he stood up for the quarterback. Most NFL legend were never shy to speak openly about who they supported and didn't support throughout the league, which player had this and that potential. That night Deion made sure people knew he was backing him up again.
